Probably forgetting things, since it's not normal to see Independents fighting the Federation. Talk about a weird twist in Lore.

I thought this was really just faction vs faction - any major power alignment is really just incidental isn't it? I don't see this as a major power conflict tbh.

It's just something you would see in a normal BGS war that has no meaning whatsoever.

It is a proxy war.

When/if we will have a direct war, it will look way different and with different mechanics.
