Those damn research limpets!

G'day,

Ive read (and posted) other posts about research limpet issues but I have just encountered a new one. This time the limpet was collected in the cargo bay successfully, a big blue message popped up telling me that the cargo had been acquired. Success! 2.3.03 has fixed the problem...

BUT NO. NO CARGO IN THE BAY. :S[alien]

Any one else experienced this?

I have experience the dismay of realizing that you can just deliver regular commodities to the CG and make 100X the contribution in a fraction of time.

Yeah I know, It doesnt make sense. That said, I'm just having fun (well, kinda) getting the samples because im sure they will come in handy at some point. Its thoroughly disappointing to go to the trouble of getting one tiny little sample and then have it disappear!

My issue was picking up cargo that was illegal in the system I was taking it to, and most of the systems enroute.

I had exactly the same frustrating experience until I read somewhere here that your ship must not move when collecting the limpet. This fixed the issue for me although it makes the whole business much more difficult (but also more exciting!) of course. What I found strange is that, at least to my memory, my first three retrievals before the failures happened when the ship was moving so either my memory deceives me or there was a change in the mechanics after the .01 or .02 update.

I had the same problem on ed xbox. I outfitted an anti-goid anaconda with loads of equipment, like repair, research and collector limpets and all ax weapons. Then i had all limpets on one firegroup button, had the limpet controllers not needed in the modul tab disabled.

Tried like 20 times to probe the thargoids, never got any tissues in my cargo bay even thou the limpet reported successful return. After that i assigned only one button in a separate firegroup to each limpet controller and it worked like a charm, first try success. Guess it's a bug in the software.

Yep, the contribution mechanic is a little annoying. They need to adjust the contribution somehow. A couple of simple thoughts:

  • Base value of contribution on the rarity/value of commodity
  • Separate goals for each commodity (peg to lowest contribution)
