General / Off-Topic Those silly F1 cars won't start the race in the right place.

When wasn't it corporate?
Races are definitely not as exciting as they've used to be, but technology is the most interesting since ever. So, to each their own I suppose...

Interesting technology =/= exciting technology.

Sport is an entertainment business. When it stops being entertaining, it loses sense.

F1 is most advanced and safest it has ever been. Yay for them, I guess

It's exciting for people who care for technology :)
Also, every time I hear people complaining about safety...were you expecting it to be blood sport? Is seeing drivers kill themselves part of the entertainment?

No, but there actually is a thing called "too much safety", imo.

Take Rallye, for example. It's "safe enough" (apart from an occasional dumb spectator killed in a place where they shouldn't be standing) yet remains exciting.

I don't know. I am probably not enough of a gearhead to find the technology ITSELF entertaining enough. As it is, F1 could easily take place on dyno machines where everyone would just compete in fuel consumption and endurance. (I am exaggerating, of course)

Erm, today's F1 is second only to Superbowl for worldwide viewing figures.

You might not enjoy it any more, others might well.

I know. There is no justice in the world.
F1 and Rallye are like Football and Handball.

One is great, exciting and hard sport and the other is... business.

I won't disagree with the fact that races are less interesting to watch these days. I find myself having more fun and spending more time reading about F1 cars and tech rather than watching it. And I do find technology quite interesting. Maybe best case would be if technology was exciting in a way that would make racing more fun, but it's not really how it works at the moment. However, I think attempt on something like this was quite clearly made. With curious changes in downforce regulations idea was to allow more overtakes. Also, I believe 2017 cars were the fastest generation we've seen in a while(if not ever), allowing for fastest cornering and lap times.
