Thought on cloaking

i think it would be interesting to implement a cloaking system that would be fitted in place of shields.
Something that would be a activated manually. And deactivated if weapons are fired or ship takes a direct hit.
It would also make smuggling easier.
What are your thoughts? Does it go against lore?

The Constrictor on the C64 version of Elite had a cloaking device. However you already have means to cloak yourself by cooling off as much as possible.
