Thoughts about the rift

Since the mishap with odyssey I’ve had to setup the rift again to get my fix of ED this weekend. It’s been a good while since I’ve used it and it’s kind of like trying it again for the first time.

Impressions

It’s light
Setting it up is slick and instantly impressive
The controllers are great
Colours are good and the response time / performance on the 2080ti is V nice.
Perfectly comfortable

The pixels seem huge
FOV seems smaller than the odyssey
The colours aren’t as vivid.

Conclusions... whilst it certainly holds its own and has so much to still recommend it, it is definitely starting to feel like old tech.

Once my pimax arrives I think I’ll only use the rift for VR workouts. (New Years resolution!)

Agree with all of that Sweet&Dandy

I'm currently "training" Mrs Teatime in various Elite activities and we were down on a moon in our SRVs. I had to use her Rift for a second to check something out and the reduced field of view, regardless of all the other differences was almost painful.

Oh when you get your PiMax I highly recommend landing on a moon/planet and getting out of the SRV/chair to stand outside - I had one of those VR wow moments again, when I thought I was over them after two years in the Rift and 2 months in the 8K.

Have they got back to you on that one TorTorden? I seem to recall they have a different support channel for kickstarter backers, to expedite replacements from "locally" held stock rather than from the factory.

Been doing the support rig-a-marole for about a week, and sales e-mailed me about address confirmation this morning for the replacement unit.

Maybe in a few weeks I hope.

I still use my Rift for Euro Truck as its engine cant handle the Vive Pros resolution.

The more i use the Pro the harder it becomes to put the Rift back on with all the coma, god rays, low contrast/brightness and dull colors.

That said i still love it to death for the thousands of hours of immersion it has given me in the early years of VRs evolution.
