Thoughts on Engineering In 3.3

I just got back from a week long expedition to approximately nowhere and back.
(I literally flew to a random star some 8,000ly then turned around...lol)

Anyhoo, I decided to buy and engineer two brand new ships for PvP, as well as AX and CZ, for use with my Squadron.
Most of my ships are general purpose, with good shielding, and pretty pants armour, and then the "usual" mods tacked on top, such as DD5, FSD range, etc, and all of my ships have been slowly upgraded using both new and old engineering systems.
I haven't engineered a ship from scratch in ages, because most of my ships, including my new Krait Phantom, are made up of used parts from ships I no longer use, or own. Lol

Having no spare parts left to build my two new ships, I've had to start from scratch.
The FSD was easy, except I haven't applied the special effect yet, as there is basically no real use for the other modifications (for me).

And that's a far as I could go. Lol
As I was building a totally different type of ship than normal, I had no useful blueprints pinned, and I'm missing most of the materials for these blueprints, because I've not needed them before.

So my to-do list just got very very long...
I've got to stock up on a load of new types of data, and manufactured materials, literally 100s, if not 1000s of materials.
Luckily elements are a doddle to find now, and I have loads of all types from landing at various geological, and biological sites on my trip.
Then I have to visit each engineer, to apply modifications, and special effects.

Ok, that's only two things, but I have to do it several times for each modification.

Obviously, that involves lots of travel around the bubble, which is kinda annoying, because I just got back from a 16,000~ly trip. Lol

So, TL : DR;
What would be nice is, if we didn't need to pin blueprints. Lol

That is all.

:p

While I think engineering is in a decent place, there should be ways for more experienced players to take shortcuts. E.g. To unlock extra pins for every 100 G5 rolls you make, up to 3 pins for 300 rolls, etc, and also trader discounts for volume.

Building one entirely new minmaxed ship is already a pita, 2 would be unreal. This is entirely why I haven't bothered with AX yet.

Has any progress been made with the new HGE problem and the absurd scarcity of military supercapacitors and improvised components? I gave up on Engineering because those parts went from being aggravating to find to functionally impossible to find.

Engineering is much better than it was my only complaint is it still goes against the ethos of the game.

"Go anywhere do anything take a ship 1000 credits blah blah blah"

By the way in order to engineer you're gonna have to trade, mine, explore and kill stuff BUT remember you still get to choose and go anywhere you want as long as you have at trader, miner, long range explorer or a ship with lots of weapons and shields.

Gee uh thought I had a choice in my chosen role?

As a whole I don't really find it a grind it's fun driving the srv around planets and the rewards are life changing and decent. Experimental and pinning blue prints are a great idea

I was going to engineer my AspX for exploring.

Looked at the list of mats I'll need, looked at the state of USSs, thought about how long it would take to fully engineer the ship....decided not to bother.

As an n00b, I like the "Engineers" concept. Means that I could make lots and lots of money with mining, exploring and stuff, but to really get the actual best ship possible, I have to unlock the engineers by playing and doing game mechanics, missions, fetches, etc. I think that's good.

We can't engineer AX weapons, so what are you talking about? The stuff that can be?

Mainly it's because there are anti human ships I still want to build before I do an AX ship, or at least, there used to be. I'm pretty much done now, maybe a Phantom and then I will start thinking about AX.

But since you brought it up, for AX, everything except core modules needs the engineering changing, optionals, utilities. Even some core modules, bulks, probably power plant cos no need for max size for AX.

I just finished rebuilding my FGS and Vulture, there aren't a lot more ships I want before I build something for AX, but it does also bother me that our regular ships that we know and fly and love are ineffective against aliens, I think I would have taken a different path, such as using engineering specials that made our weapons more effective against thargs, while still decently effective against humans. For example.

The whole idea of having to unlock and visit the engineers was terrible. It's just a time sink standing between you and your goal.

It prevents you from really having fun with engineers by experimenting with different combinations for different situations. It also means that some players can't even consider PvP or open because they don't have the kind of time to sink into engineering their ships to be competitive.

Get rid of the engineers. Get rid of wake scanning requirements. Remove the requirement to go visit the engineers. Game vastly improved.

Go to Dav's hope and do the scan/scoop loop at least a dozen times (or more). When prospecting, grab everything, not just what you need. Use material traders. You'll still probably have to do some scanning or missions or targeted hunting for a couple mats. I don't even bother with specials anymore, or if I do, I just get whatever one I have the mats for. For PVE, I've decided I don't have the patience or the need for the ultimate ship. As far as Guardian tech or whatever, just never mind...
