Thoughts on salvaging floating ships

For the umpteeth time I (like everyone else) run across ships that are fairly intact while looking for materials for upgrading FSD's and such. I've run across fighters to Anacondas just floating among the debris. Every time, I wish I could do something besides use it for target practice.

With 2.4 coming out and having hull repairing limpets, I thought this would be a great time to create a new way to make money or add a new ship to our fleet.

I know the new limpets can only repair hulls. It would be nice to have an advanced limpet that can not only repair hulls but have System Repair capabilities, or a second limpet that can do that. Once the ship registers as "repaired", transfer to the "new" ship and determine energy and other needs. If it needs fuel, send over fuel limpets. Yes, it would probably require a medium to large ship configured for ship salvaging.

Anyway, to get it to the nearest station, transfer an NPC pilot to follow you there. Once at the station, the NPC disengages and the ship shows up as storage for use or sale. Just a thought...

Yep, cracking idea and, another way to make money and or get a free ship upgrade.... This is part of the X series of games and made the game far more playable but then, in X, you can control your own FLEETS :)
