Ships Thoughts on ship theorycrafting.

So, a sleep depravity-induced thought has hit me, and the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

So far, from a mixture of both confirmed ships to be released, and ships currently in the game... nearly every manufacturer has a ship of every size.

Falcon deLacy has the Sidewinder and Viper for small, Cobra and Python for medium, and the Anaconda for large.

Lakon Spaceways has the Diamondback Scout, and Explorer models for small, Type-6 Transporter and Asp Explorer for medium, and the Type-7 Transport and Type-9 Heavy for large.

Zorgon Peterson has the Hauler and Adder for small, Fer-de-Lance for medium, and the upcoming Panther Clipper for large.

This leaves three 'questionable's, though.

Saud Kruger has the in-game Orca as a large, but the upcoming Dolphin is assumed to be smaller, though size unknown, and the Beluga Liner is, while still unknown, assumed to be massively larger. This goes off of concept art seen previously, which may or may not be up-to-date.

Core Dynamics is another odd one, as the Eagle and Vulture are small ships, but the Federal Dropship is a large, and the Federal Corvette is almost certainly going to be a large ship as well. They don't have a medium ship.

And Gutamaya, the Imperial-leaning shipyard, has the small Courier, and the large Clipper. As with Core Dynamics, the Federation equivalent, they do not have a medium ship.

All of this pandering brings up an interesting thought... is it in the works for every ship manufacturer to have a ship for each of the three basic size templates?

So, size class based off of landing pad size. One correction to offer, the FDS lands on a medium sized pad and while the Clipper uses a large pad it is classified as a medium. That said your suggestion of makes sense for two excellent reasons. One; for game-play purposes it would be best to have a decent selection of all ship sizes and prices available in all classes, fighter, trader etc. seeing as the various manufacturers tend to specialize in one or two classes then their should be a thorough selection of sizes available from all manufacturers. Second; from a lore perspective it's hard to imagine any of the multi-billion (or even trillion) credit manufactures would leave a gap in available ship sizes, otherwise they would lose billions when a pilot chooses another manufacturer because their favorite doesn't have a ship that fits the bill.

p.s there are plans for a imperial equivalent to the federal corvette called the Imperial Cutter. Cant say I've heard anything recent about it though.
