Threat 4 = Medusas? Yikes!

Hey all,

Not played in a number of weeks, but came back for some AX in Sol - I'm really out of practise. After taking some time moving ships and some other logistics stuff, I entered the Sol system. I found a Threat 4 AX weapons fire detected Signal Source and headed for it as it was close. Initially, and for several minutes it was just myself and a few AI AX Ships flying around. A couple of Scouts then arrived and were quickly dispatched. Another few minutes of nothing after that.

Then, two Interceptors jumped in... both Medusa! Right away, several of the AI AX Ship jumped away - wakes left behind - but enough stuck around to make things fun. I wasn't able to take down either Interceptor, and the remaining AI AX Pilots weren't very helpful. I got some solid shots on one Interceptor numerous times, stressing the heart. However, I came under heavy fire from the other interceptor while doing so lol. So, I had to break off before the heart was taken out. Didn't help that I was having issues switching sub-system targets, but that's just me fumbling the controls. Out of practice.

I also noticed that going cold doesn't appear to be anywhere near as effective as it was. Last time I played, I'd drop well below 20% heat and, even with an Interceptor that's right in front of me and firing, it would often miss. I could whittle them down with ease as other enemies in the instance wouldn't be able to detect me readily either. Perhaps the Medusa variant just has better eye-sight :) Regardless, even when frosting up, those things always knew where I was within a couple of km, and they were accurate with their shots.

All-in-all, a FUN first time back in a while, but I did not expect a Threat 4 to have Medusa! Previously, and perhaps this is dated information, a Threat 4 would usually just have Scouts, with the rare chance and Interceptor would show up. If more of the AI AX Pilots had stuck around, rather than fleeing, perhaps I'd have done better. My current ship - a Python 2 with Shards - was really designed for hit-and-run attacks while being supported - and supporting - a more tanky ally. He's not around at the moment.

I think I'll dump the two C2 LR TV Beam Turrets I had fitted. They are good at keeping the ship chilly, but really didn't help. I'd usually only use running cold on my larger AX ships that cannot simply boost out of trouble. With the P2, the beams would allow me to sit there firing longer, so I considered them a bonus. Helping me deal damage, rather than for getting away like with larger ships.

So, is this the new normal? High-end Interceptors in a lowly Threat 4?

Teaming up with a friend, the spawns are now lesser Interceptors, so a bit easier.

One issue we are having, while cruising around, we see Signal Sources of course, but we can never see the same ones. They exist for both of us, but they're simply not shown in the Nav panel. annoying as we have to follow each other's team beacon.

The war signal sources have been wonky in regards to their threat levels ever since their introduction into the game (with U14). I had a Hydra drop into a threat 6 signal once when it was only an Anaconda and some Kraits as NPC backup. I quickly ditched that particular instance... (was early in the war and back then I still was on the step to routinely take out Basilisks)

But they do provide some fun encounters to create a bit of diversity to the AX conflict zones if they spawn Thargoids at all... like that one time I got two Basilisks and two Cyclops to drop in on a convoy of AX NPCs. Unfortunately it was not meant to be as a fight which I would win.
