Newcomer / Intro Threat Level 1, doing something wrong

Hi, hope someone can help.

Picked up Odyssey yesterday, thought i'd try some basic missions. Picked up one to retrieve something from a nearby crash site. Threat level 1, it said, green friendly letters. Flew out, had on my Artemis (EDIT- Maverick suit with arc cutter) suit as directed (presumably needed to cut something). Landed, looted the only box that was available to open, the Personal Documents weren't there. Looked at the other 2 boxes, but they didn't appear to be open-able, either by the E key or using the Arc Cutter.

Soon 3 dudes turned up and wrecked me. Tried again with a very similar mission, same issue, although this time I hopped into my ship and managed to escape with 13% hull (those personal weapons they got are pretty effective against ships!).

Am I biting off way more than I can chew with a threat level 1 mission, or am I not supposed to be hanging around that long, so to avoid those guys with my level 1 suit and weapons?

Any advice much appreciated! Thanks.

Artemis is the exploration suit.

Threat 1 does produce a "drop" of scavengers to fight your for the goodies.

Often the mission requirement doesn't spawn and you have to re-log for it to do so.

I don't "do" combat ('cos I am rubbish) - so when I have done these - I do it in my SRV - hang about in cover and use the SRV guns to kill the scum.

YMMV

good luck

Use the SRV to take out the bad guys. Maverick suit required, and get yourself to an anarchy station to buy some e-breeches to open the numlocked boxes.

Thanks both- I was in the Maverick suit, apologies, not the Artemis suit (I assumed I needed to use the Maverick suit's Arc Cutter, but no dice).

The mission description doesn't mention e-breeches, but thanks for the SRV tip. Good plan. TBH, they take a while to show up, I just wondered why I couldn't find the mission requirements, and it slowed me down.

Odyssey missions in general are more dynamic, and Threat Level is more like a suggestion. I've done Threat 5 missions that were easy, and Threat 1's that weren't so easy. But after a while you kinda know which sorts of missions tend to be harder. Almost all of them have 'wrinkles' they throw at you, like extra scavs showing up or some such. You'll get used to it. :)

Thanks :) I don't mind dynamism or wrinkles, I welcome them. I just need to know I'm not up against an enemy I am utterly ill equipped to deal with, otherwise repeating the same mistake is just foolish

At salvage missions you may have one or two waves of scavs drop in, although one may be on the ground. Keep your ears open for the sound of an incoming ship, and retreat.

Well, much of the 'equipping' necessary in Odyssey is actually knowledge and experience, rather than gear. You can do most missions in a Grade 1 suit, if you know what you're up to and what to expect. Having higher grade suits makes life easier, especially for combat, of course. And silenced weapons are great to have for stealth missions, but those missions can still be done without them.

Here's a great guide on the stealth mechanics of the game, with great info on what makes guards aggro and etc. Worth checking out.
