Threat level 6 in 3.1

Popped into my first threat level 6 in 3.1 last night. Maybe it's just me but I never saw a threat level 6 USS before 3.1 so I was curious.
WOW, toughest NPC fight I've ever had! wing of 7 including anaconda, FDL, python and some small fighters. They had rails and seemed to have engineered weapons and pounded me hard. I killed off 3 but as I went after #4 my shields went down and I had no SCBs (was hauling so had cargo racks) and I had to high wake out to save my skin!
Well done FDEV! Other than compromised NAVs sometimes this was a pretty challenging NPC fight.

Yup. Took a peek thinking I'd bolt if it was too hairy. Pew pew pew. Malfunctions everywhere. Eject eject eject! 8500000 rebuy.
That was refreshing! :D

Threat Level 6...wing of 7...nice to see they've added some wing content they've been screaming for.

Also, thanks OP for warning. I'll stay out of threat level 6 USS.

First time I did it, I did so in the challenger...jumped out after about 5 seconds of full on panic mode.

Second time I did it in the cutter...lost two rings on the sheild after blowing through about half my sheild boosters, killed the main target and high waked out...mission complete. After that I started stacking them cos they get easier once ye know who the main damage dealers are and it doesnt constantly shift around like the old versions used to, so its the exact same setup every time.

Done in half the time the old wing missions were...fer half the coin so really, not an awful lot has changed in terms of risk/reward so long as ye have a 1b credit ship to fall back on. Solo assassinations pay better and are even easier and thats in the challenger...in the cutter its just money fer nothin ^

I've died twice, once due to stupidity (power priorities cough cough) and the second when I didn't realise the npc had phasing weapons.

They're great :)

Haha o7

What's the paintjob?

Yes, these are great fun, and a real challenge. The first time I got caught by surprise, the enemies were only 'master', but thats a bit missleading.
I think it a good sign that fd finally dared to put engineered enemies in the wild.
It seemed to be some design decision to keep engineering entirely optional (probably something to do with horizons) but as long as noone is forced to drop into these I don't see a problem here.

So last night I drop into a level 6 threat USS "Weapons fire detected" and NO ONE IS THERE. It's empty! I sat, waited, cruised around, nothing.
?

This ^ happened to me on all "Weapons fire detected" [Threat Level 5]. I was looking for a challenging fight, but it was a waste of time.

I did however, drop on a Distress Call [Threat Level 4-5?] and there was a friendly battlecruises and a bunch of pirates (maybe 6-7). I engaged the pirates, and a new battle cruises popped in with about 7-8 more pirates. The battle cruisers engaged each other, I was left to deal with about a dozen pirates. After a few minutes I had to bail out with 60% hull (due to mass lock!). I was in an armed T-10 with an SLF.

Heh, I guess it's just me, then...

I, too, had never seen a TL6 USS that wasn't goid-related so I thought I'd jump in, expecting to have to run away.
Found a Vulture and 2 unshielded sidey's in it.

Shurely shome mishtake?

Maybe it's like a counter that overflows. So the max number is 4, and 5 is actually 0 (explaining why nobody is there), while 6 is in fact a 1, so that's why you saw Vulture and sidey's

Just looked up this thread ... wish I’d seen earlier! Just got handed my first rebuy for months after dropping in to Threat 6 USS for “curiosity” and encountering a wing of 3 Competent FDLs ... didn’t sound too bad ... fully engineered Krait at my end on which - so far - nothing had even touched the shields.

Well, attempting to get the shields down on one of the FDLs was successful and he was down to 17% Hull before I realised the other two had almost evaporated my shields. What? These things had way more firepower and protection than any “Competent” NPC I’ve ever seen. Pegged it ... recharged one ring of shields and managed to draw the damaged FDL off from his mates. Figured his 17% Hull (its an FDL - it should be paper ...) vs my 1 ring of 1200MJ 50%+ resistances 6C BiWeave would be okay. Nope. Not even slightly. He was literally taking no damage from my 3C beams and was moving so fast I couldn’t land the PAs. Wowsers. Legged it when my shields dropped. Didn’t matter - even boosting at 500m/s he kept pace and took me out. 6 million down the tube.

Now ... I don’t mind the losing ... it’s annoying but I had plenty of cash to swallow the rebuy. But “Competent” NPCs? No way, FDev. No way. If they’d have shown up as an Elite wing I wouldn’t have engaged. And these were tougher than any Elite wing I’ve taken on.
