Newcomer / Intro Throttle control

When im fighting another ship and i throttle down to go in reverse my throttle always stops at 0, and i have to hit throttle down again for my ship to go in reverse. Is there an option where the throttle will be continuous and not stop at 0 every time.

What kind of controls are you using? HOTAS? XBox controller? Mouse Keyboard?

i use a keyboard for throttle control and a joystick for directional control.
