Throttle problem Saitek X52 Pro

I've recently bought a Saitek X52 Pro joystick/throttle.
Plugged it in and loaded ED and gone into settings to check what the various axes and buttons do.
I went into the game and selected auto-launch, but as soon as the docking clamps were released my Fer-de-Lance immediately went into full reverse thrust and I had no throttle control whatsoever. Consequently my ship was destroyed, I ended up having to pay over 8 Million Credits in insurance and ended up on a penal ship.
I auto-launched from the penal ship and the reverse thrust kicked in again on release but this time I managed to avoid disaster by thrusting up and out into space. Trouble is, I don't seem to have any forward thrust from my throttle and I can't throttle down to zero, effectively meaning that I'm constantly in reverse regardless of whether my throttle is fully forward, fully back or somewhere in-between.
I've tried messing around with the settings in the control option, but can't figure out what's wrong.
So, I'm hoping that one of you good people knows what to do, or who has had the same issue with the Saitek X52 throttle control.
In the meantime, I've switched back to my trusty old Microsoft Sidewinder which has enabled me to return Facece where my ships are stored.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the X52 because it works perfectly well in MS Flight Simulator 2020.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it work in windows device manager? If its performing as expected then it will be a setting in ED. A bit like when people change the mouse axis in FPS games.

If it does not work in windows as expected, it sounds like a fault.

I'm going to say that you have the axis reversed in the settings and it set to forward only (default setting). You need to change it to full range throttle, then at least it'll go forwards, backwards and zero, then you can sort out the direction.

Whenever you get a new controller or new drivers for one, you should test it in the noob training scenarios, as it's very common to end up with an unflyable ship until you sort out all the axis directions and other problems.

You might have other issues but it can't hurt to check the basics. First I wouldn't use any X-52 programming software but bind
directly to the game for now. Keep it simple to start.

In Options are you binding to [JOY X-AXIS] by selecting the throttle then moving the throttle handle? My X-56 gray reports that.

ED has two throttle bindings per Forward Only = 0 to +100 percent. Full Range = -100 percent reverse to +100 percent forward.
Add in the Inverted or Regular selection if the throttle is doing the opposite of what is desired say pushing the throttle forward in
Forward Only goes in reverse. Inverted/Regular is for compatibility between different controllers.

So if in Full Range and the throttle handle is pulled down to zero the ship might fly at max reverse. Auto launch won't work as it will
deactivate with any signal to it other than zero throttle. I use Forward Only plus Inverted on a X-56 gray throttle then bind a button
for Forward Only Throttle Reverse. Same for the SRV. Then the throttle handle at zero = zero thrust in the game.
