Newcomer / Intro Thrust vs throttle?

Just started playing the Mac client, just realised I've been using the thrust forward/back keys I assigned to mainly move in ED, noticed the throttle keys but they seem to do the same thing - what am I missing?

I know I should be using the throttle up/ down to move forward/back but the thrust seems to do the same thing been able to build up full speed and jump with the thrust keys so please advise?

Don't you have to constantly press the thrust keys?

The throttle increments go up or down depending on what key you press and stay there until you change them.

That makes complete sense! Thanks!

I have just received my ch throttle so going to take a day off later this week and really focus on configuring my thrust master 16000m joystick and ch throttle on the Mac. Hope I can run them both off my laptop without needing a USB hub?

Any tips or recommendations for configs for the TM 16000 and CH throttle combo on a Mac welcome!

I don't have the same setup but there are a lot of usefull suggestions on google. Or do it like i did: go into the first training mission and just try to configure it intuetively. also: don't be afraid of adjusting it as soon as you notice it getting uncomfortable. It's harder to "relearn" once you get used to it despite the uncomfortability.

For example: most presets have the UI menu controls all on the HAT of the joystick. usually where the energy management is. I remapped it to my throttles thumb-HAT where i usually control my thrusters.... much more comfortable. since i don't like bending my thumb up over the joystick all the time... but thats all a question of ergonomics. (i have the x55 rihno system form saitek at home)

Can't give Mac-specific advice but do remember that ED can recognise multiple presses, which means you can designate "shift" buttons, the three finger buttons on the throttle seem natural for such buttons. This is really handy since there are not enough accessible buttons on this combo to have one button per function.

The analogue mini stick on the throttle is great for up/down/left/right thrust, though it needs a dead zone or an S-curve to deaden the central response, I'm not sure if the CH management software works on Mac but a small in-game dead zone works almost as well. There is unfortunately no similar axis available for forward/reverse thrust, so I use the t16000m's top-hat for this.
