Newcomer / Intro Thrusters at 0% stranded in space

So I remember in the beta we had a distress call function, why o why did they remove this??

In my kitted out class c viper I got my thrusters taken out by a eagle whilst hunting pirates.

Please, please please add in an option for either back up thrusters to limp home, a tow rope so I can tow my ship home with one of my others or reintroduce the stress call??

Maybe make it so players can only use the distress call every now and then so it doesn't get overused.

I've read a few other posts and seems users would rather just not play anymore than use the destruct button to decimate their prized ship. I'm in the same boat, loses the immersion completely by just destructing and forking out the $25k insurance. I worked bloody hard for my money, to grind again is annoying.

We must be able to do something when the thrusters go - please HELP DEVS!

Other than that loving the game but this is definitely a game breaker for me.

But seriously you are 100% correct, i would like to see some kind of solution here like a distress signal, since even auto maintenace unit cant repair thrusters.

Where are you? I'll come give you a push.

Oh wait, that will blow you up as soon as I bump you...

Time to introduce repair tenders.

"some smaller navies use the Anaconda in the light cruiser and frigate roles. The Anaconda can also be upgraded with a docking bay allowing small fighters up to Sidewinder size to be carried and launched." <- From elite wikia. So, if 2 sideys cant fit into conda, why not 1 viper. Would be cool if i could pick you up with the conda.

I didn't know sidewinders could fit in an anaconda that is cool.

Thanks, I think the community would be heavily in favour of changes hopefully something gets done for next update

Unfortunately as of now your only option is to hit the blow me up button. Sounds like if you continue to be inflexible in this and you think it's such a game breaker then ED may not be for you.
It's probably not going to change anytime soon so this is goodbye, farewell, adios and sayonara. Come back in 6 months to see if FD has bothered doing anything about it. I think not.
I would think that a pirate would be more likely to respond to your distress call and finish you off than someone to tow you back to base. How would that even work in SC or FSD?

As of 1.1 they can, tested and confirmed with my Adder Explorer.

There is a Dev post somewhere where they said they are thinking abut if they can have a system to repair the field by cannibalising other systems to get enough repairs done to limp home if you don't have the AFM unit
But for now best just to fit one.

I'd say if you're distraught over self destructing your ship, the immersion is working pretty well... :)

I think being able to call other players to help you haul your ship back to a nearest station for a fee is an amazing idea!

+1 Rep for you.

I hope FD can implement this in the future.

I think this fits into the ED universe perfectly. You send a distress signal and:

a) Some good Samaritan sees it and comes to tow you back home for a nominal fee.

b) Some enterprising individual sees it and agrees to come and tow you back home for a fee fractionally less than your insurance excess.

c) Some pirate sees it, threatens to blow you away unless you dump your cargo. Then they take the cargo and leave you floating in space.

d) Some griefer sees it and blows you away for kicks.

It's the ED universe in microcosm.

The idea of a distress call for help seems like a very good idea to me. It could form part of your insurance premiums like breakdown cover in motor insurance.

Fees based on the mass and distance to haul back... Could be an entite new job section. New ship hardware for repairing other ships on the fly... Cool idea!

[edit] of course it will attract the vultures... Otherwise it wouldnt be Elite: dangerous....

It would certainly attract vultures, but what attracts vultures will attract people who want to kill vultures.

The way this game rewards traders money wise, as soon as we get a decent set of social features it won't be long before we have people putting unofficial 'hits' out on griefers and folk forming groups of PC pirate-hunting buccaneers.

Can't wait.

Devs have said they're looking into some sort of emergency aide in the 1.2 release. Not much use to you in your broken down Viper today (yesterday) but in a month or two it will be in the game (at least in beta right?)

fingers crossed, I'll probably swallow it and self destruct. The initial rage from it happening has died down now, I'll just get back into my mining hauler and go to my gold / platinum rich mine fields and upgrade the viper some more.

It's a great idea and a potential new career for some, I hope it happens. That's exactly the sort-of thing that makes an online game more fun: interaction between players doing different roles. Imagine the negotiations for PvP!

The comms channel finally buzzed into life.

"I'll tow yer to Bontress 781, but it's going to cost yer, mate."

"Why so much? It's only a Cobra and ten tonnes of meat."

"Sorry, that's the rate-card. I've got over-heads, insurance, a family to feed. I could just leave you."

"NO! No, wait a minute. Er, would you take three tonnes of the meat as part-payment? Or, could you get me to Lepping Gate, in the Astos 20 system?"

Scratches chin..."Lepping Gate I could do. Tell yer wot: give us two tonnes of meat and 300Cr and I'll even get ya a discount on a new drive...bloke I know."

I ran out of fuel within meters of the station when I first started out, could probably still find the post if I looked.

I was asking about the same thing...
