Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster 3rd & 4th Cougar MFD Question

With the 4 device limit in ED 3.0 I now need to get my 3rd and 4th MFD into my combined device using TARGET. Unfortunately I cannot make it work. I've contacted Thrustmaster support and they just stated that it is not supported. I found a forum (different game) were someone claimed to have made it work by modifying the script files (e.g. target.tmh) I tried that plus creating the appropriate files in DevCfg. Within the target.tmh I defined TMFD and BMFD (top and bottom) just like the LMFD and RMFD lines are, plus the map assignment later by repeating what is done with LMFD/RMFD. However, upon startup the Target GUI gets an exception and refuses to work. The exception seems totally unrelated to the changes I've made.

Anyone who has made it work?

Hi,

I'm just guessing, but you would need to transform Joystick Buttons to Keyboard input, then you can map the keyboard buttons in Elite's controller mappings. Are your 3rd and 4th Cougars identified by Windows properly in device manager as no.3 and no.4?

I would try with Voiceattack, you can assign 2 'joysticks' there, and you can make commands for each buttons, like 'Keypress A', then in Elite keymapping, you can assign 'A' to retract gears, or whatever...

My other approach would be Autohotkey (free). Although in this case it needs a bit of scripting knowledge...
https://autohotkey.com/docs/misc/RemapJoystick.htm

There is also an earlier free version of Xpadder somewhere on the net, and JoyToKey, for the same purpose.

I prefer VA, for me it is the most user friendly an has the most possibilities (like writing macros, attaching voices, etc.). And voice commands are cool! I've played around with T.A.R.G.E.T. for a while, but except that I could control the LED states and make some visual effects with that on the Cougars, it was too 'tight' for my needs.

Best regards!

...und viel Glück :) !

That is what the TARGET software is doing. However, only with #1 and #2, not for #3 and #4.

Yes. There is a tool from Thrustmaster which allows you to change the ID from 1 and 2 to e.g. 3 and 4.

Up until 2.4 I've been using #1 and #2 via TARGET (simulating keyboard or JOY_x keys) and #3 and #4 directly in ED. However, in 3.0 (beta) you can only have 4 devices. Otherwise none will recognized. Loading the bindings will fail. As I do have a second HOTAS (for vanity camera controls) I have to reduce the number of devices to max 4.

Hi,

maybe the above mentioned apps can do the trick, what TARGET can't. For VoiceAttack, there is a free version with limited access, but you can try, if it can handle your 3rd, 4th Cougars.
