Thrustmaster Hotas only works once after each fresh install in VR!

Im trying to get into Elite in VR. I have spent a year playing flatscreen practising combat with a Thrustmaster Hotas stick.
Now i have a Reverb G2, and the one or two times i have successfully gotten Elite to run in VR its really great.
Problem is, i basically get one startup from a fresh Steam install that works, and every time after that when it opens i have no controll.
No keyboard or Hotas - no input is recognised, can not get past startup screen. ( Latest firmware and driver for Hotas of course )

This seems to be a common issue. Can anybody advise me on this problem where Elite stops recognising a Thrustmaster Hotas untill you uninstall and reinstall from steam?
I dont think its a VR thing in particular, i remember this happening on flatscreen as well, but flatscreen generally works for me where VR never does, and with each failed attempt to start Elite taking sooooo long its exceptionally not fun or quality gaming time.

Specs are Win 10 / X570 / r5 3600 / 2080 / Reverb G2 with latest firmware.

There is a known USB problem running the HP G2 on an AMD X570 chipset motherboard, so maybe this is your problem. AMD are trying to come up with a bios fix. If you check your motherboard manufacturers website they may have a beta bios that will help until AMD release a final version. Other than that you can install a USB PCIE addon card that may fix the problem. You will have to search for which ones work though as it's a bit of a lottery.

I have just spotted another post that may help you...
right click on Elite Dangerous in Steam to get into the properties - controller setting - use default settings - and turn on the steam overlay, it won't work without it.

Thanks for heaps that, will check out that post. I strongly suspect that its some combination of windows WMR, steam, steam VR, my Hotas driver, and Elite that i occasionaly fluke and things work.

You're welcome and I hope it works. Keep an eye out for the bios fix though.

Ah familiar issue for vr.

btw if you end up accidentally clicking off your window while in VR, your controls will stop working. You've probably found that out already. Well a fix for that, one it took a while to find out about for myself, you can change your settings to fullscreen in the graphics options within elite while in vr, and then you cant click off the window. It will always default back to windowed when you start VR, but if you want to stop yourself from occasionally losing control because you clicked off the vr window, then thats how you do it.
