Newcomer / Intro ThrustMaster TWCS Set up

Greetings guys and fellow space nomads.

My gorgeous co pilot ( Her who must be obeyed ) Bought me a new Thrust master throttle for my birthday to compliment my T16000M.

Im confused with the options in control settings set up.

I want it to be able toggle reverse, as in I ever only use reverse whilst landing or docking, I have tried to get this working, but it either wants to go to 100% Fwd, or 100% reverse.( not incremental )

At the same time, my joystick controls are fine, and would prefer not to lose the hat switch thruster control when docking, but need analogue control on the throttle and thrusters for landing, so theirs a conflict I think.

Can you thrustmaster users please help, Im looking for tutorials, links, pics , anything that can help me get my head around this. Ive always used standard keyboard settings, W for fwd, S for reverse. This is entirely new to me.

Ive made a reference sheet on the mcdee site it says misconfiguration detected...Im not surprised :)
Thanks in advance

Not sure what is the problem, but check if you have the flight throttle settings set to "Forward only" and that you have bound a reverse button that isn't bound to anything else. You can chose between "Hold" (the throttle will work in reverse while you hold the button) or "toggle" (the button will switch the throttle direction between forwards and backwards.)

lol@Henka . obviously i looked at the thread, but couldnt find the relevant bits.

@chris, thanks as always, ill try that, the problem is me, Im dense when it comes to understanding bindings. Ive been looking for suitable videos, but didnt have any luck, a talk through do this, press that is what i could ideally do with.

in thr meantime, Ill go back to the thrustmaster thread and see if i can glean anything from there, and in the meantime meantime :) ive re imported my old settings, out of frustration

there is no throttle axis assigned, what should that be buddy ?

I used the built-in settings, and made a few tweaks here and there. For instance, the default button for reverse throttle is the one for your pinky finger. For me, having the built-in bindings in ED was a big reason why I went with this HOTAS.

Under the "Flight Throttle" there is a "Throttle axis" binding. (Highlighted orange in my picture) Click the field and move your throttle forwards and backwards to bind it.
Then change the "Throttle axis range" from "Full range" to "Forward only"

Click the field next to the "Forward only throttle reverse" and press the button you want to use for reversing the throttle.

Then choose the "Button mode" underneath. "Toggle" if you want to switch between forward and backward thrusters by a button press, or "Hold" if you want to throttle always function forward and only reverse while you're holding the button.

Once you've done all that, log into the game and check if the throttle has the right direction (depending if you bound your axis by + or - motion) There is a "Inverted" or "Regular" option next to the throttle axis binding. (It's set to "inverted" in my picture) that will allow you to change the throttle primary direction without rebinding it. So if your ship moves forward when you apply throttle forward, leave it be, if the ship moves backwards when you apply forward throttle, change it to the other option.

There are many solutions both on the Forum and YouTube videos. But what really counts is your game play style. Others will offer their suggestions with their game play style which may not be the best for you. You gained a lot of experience with the joystick. Take advantage of that with more opportunities especially with the Hats on the throttle you wanted on the joystick.

Thanks Hooplah, it's mainly the throttle settings I was having issues with, binding the other keys isn't a problem, for instance I've remapped the flap buttons right to system map, left to gal map , I'm hoping that now I'll be able to bind all the keys except for writing messages in comms . I have the added bonus of VA to consider or hinderance depending on your outlook, that's easy now though it can simply import your bindings when finished.

@ Chris...perfect buddy, you sorted me out yet again :) I've logged off for the day now but I'll do those settings tomorrow

Also, FWIW I find that binding the reverse as a HOLD function rather than toggle seems more intuitive to me and also prevents you forgetting whether you are in forward or reverse at a critical point in combat or docking etc.

Greetings to you and your girlfriend.

Been there, same situation...there is so mutch to learn in this game, and these settings are diff. for all users.
I use these settings, after ALOT of trying and cursing and restarting the game...BUT before anybody try's to do this, ALWAYS check your bindings in the TRAINING mode first. Or you will end up in your home in angles you did'n know existed, only to end up exploding because you could not exit the port on time. Very costly !
On the throtle i use the scroling wheel for the radar increments (U axis)
Button 2 is my supercruise
Button 3 is my hyperspace
Now for you ; the 4/5 button i use for fwrd/backw and it works like i wanted it !
This with my keyboard up/down for up & down, left/right for the L/R and the joystick..for me it works just fine.
BTW i do not use the 100/75/50 ect settings and fly just fine without them, the only one i use is the 0 speed (0 on my keyboard (next to del that i use for my heatsink)
i hope this helps you a bit, remember to test settings in training mode !
if you need more info just ask me, be safe !

Thanks Cmdr 0303, pity I hadn't read your tip before I started messing with the controls today :( when I resumed the game after making adjustments I face planted the Dbx at over 200mps with the throttle stuck on 100% gladly it didn't kill my shields or damage anything much mainly due to the very low G than my skills :)

@ Cerberus...great point sir, hold for reverse will be much much more suitable when in the Srv and docking etc ...I'll change that tomorrow.

3 more buttons to assign away from the keyboard, then that's me done...I must say using the throttle gives me far more incremental control and being the space geek I am, immersion...it's a game changer for me.

Thanks everyone for your tips and tricks , I've said it before, this community rocks :)
