Thrustmaster Warthog Control Assignments

Here is my personal assignment for the Warthog setup. Note that I'm using TrackIR for headlookking and pedals for YAW, so they are not assigned to the controls.

Edit 1: Swapped Flight Assist button and Scoop Cargo button to get faster and easier access to Flight Assist.

I don't have any special rudder pedals per say, but I'm having my Logitech Driving Force Pro steering wheel with pedals connected, so I'm using the gas and brake pedals as rudder input.

This is my setup, which mostly default settings with a few tweaks:

I have made more changes to my Warthog profile as time has gone on - I wanted Button 5 to be a PTT for Teamspeak or in-game if it is included in the future, so moved Select Target Ahead to the POV1-UP switch instead of Cycle Next Hostile Ship. I was also not happy with using the Gun Trigger as 'Select' in the side panels so changed it to Button 19 which felt more natural, and moved the Secondary Fire to Button 2, which is what I use for Secondary Fire in another game.

On the throttle I have changed Deploy Hard Points to Button 27 and assigned Landing Gear to Button 21, also used in my other game so used to it. :) I changed Toggle Head Look to Button 3 - again I use this as an 'up-modifier' in my other game so it felt natural there. I reversed the Cargo Scoop and Reverse Throttle as Button 8 doesn't 'hold on' and is only on while pressed. Button 7 however is a toggle and better suited to the Cargo Scoop.

I use Saitek Pro Pedals for Yaw. I don't use TrackIr but hoping to be using one of the "£10 head trackers" when I've had more practice with flying/docking etc generally - don't want to overload myself with too many new things to learn just yet. :D

This setup seems to suit me at the moment, though no doubt things will get changed as the game evolves. :)

Nice one! Thinking I may move the UI controls as same as yours, I should test it now, I've been defensive of the CMS POV hat as it feels hard to control, but it would be nice to have the boost thrust on the MIC switch as it is too easy to activate it when reversing while docking.

Are you using TARGET, or remapping within the ED Controls menu?

In previous iterations I used TARGET, now I just rebind in the controls menu. I am still not 100% happy with every location.

The issues with not using TARGET are:

1) you can't use the layers function to have a "shift" button and easily add second functions to buttons
2) the hardware switches only send a pulse when pushed "ON" and not "OFF". For example I use RDR ALT for landing gear, push it away from me (clunk, it stays away) gear is deployed. In TARGET I'd now have it send the toggle code upon switching back. Nothing happens in rebind, so to undeploy I need to go DOWN, UP, DOWN to get it in the correct "is my gear deployed?" position.
3) you can set your own deadzones and "rate of attack" of the throttle and joystick.

The bonus of not using TARGET is you can't forget to run it and be wildly spinning when you start the game.

I've been running without Target till now, but I'd like to figure out things like #2 above to increase the immersiveness.

Having never used Target before, it's all looking a little alien to me. Can you share your original Target configuration?

Lightbulb! good idea, I was mulling over buying a set from saitek, but I read this and remembered that I was annoyed that my feet were kicking my own set Doh!

Here's my contribution, exported directly from TARGET:

This gets me where I'm going without too many problems. I've used TARGET's switch press and depress functions for several of the toggles—having the landing gear command firing on both activation and deactivation of the boat switch, for example, makes it useful as an actual toggle, which is nice.

The FCF file is here, if you guys want to download and use. You'd obviously have to totally remap your in-game controls, but I tried to label everything exactly as I'm using it. Only thing I think I labeled backward was the sensor zoom in/out.

I play with the two throttle switches linked, since trying to manage them independently was too complicated for me (as was finding something useful to pin to the other throttle axis). I also started fiddling with using the left throttle 3-way toggle as a U-M-D mode switch, but other than making the LEDs light up and using it as a "safety" for the dump cargo button, I haven't actually done anything useful with it yet.

Just waiting on my warthog now.
Does Target come with a E:D profile that we can edit or do we have to set it up from scratch?

ED comes with a Warthog profile, so you don't need to use TARGET.

However, if you want to use the "shift" function, or the LEDs, or some other snazzy stuff you'll need TARGET.

MikeyTT has done a good job of a profile - http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22379 which may help you get started.

Cheers for the link.
I'm looking to use the snazzy stuff!
Also I want to use the flick switches for landing gear up and down etc which I belief you need to set up in TARGET?

How have you been finding the stick with this game?

I like it, but I've never used another stick or gamepad. It's quite stiff, which just takes some getting used to. Feels indestructible, except (and inexplicably) a couple of bits on the throttle and the pin that holds the left/right throttles together. I get the feeling that the Saitek ones are better for this game, mostly because that's the go-to model the devs use so it gets the most attention from them, which is fine as you can steadily customise this anyway.

TARGET, somewhat surprisingly, has a very good manual with it. You can download it and the software before your stick arrives if you want to play with it, it does not need the stick connected to work.

Sorry, missed this so apologies for delay in replying.

I based it on the default Thrustmaster Warthog setup within ED, which changes to 'Custom' as soon as any changes are made. I did go through and add key presses as secondary buttons for a lot of the functions so that I can also use things like the ROCCAT Power Grid for quick access. I mainly use the ROCCAT for navigating the UI panels as well as landing gear, cargo scoop and exiting from SuperCruise etc. :)

Hi folks, I'm new to the warthog and have found this thread really useful, Thanks very much for all the info and the diagrams.
I am gonna have to sit and learn target at some point :)
