Tie Power Play Module Unlocks to Weekly Assignments

So FDev doesn't want people to just blow through unlocking all of the modules in a day. Which I think is a fair wish on their end.
Players want to unlock the modules on a time frame shorter than one every few months, which is also fair.

Why not tie the module unlocks to completing the weekly powerplay assignments? Players would be able to unlock one module a week, so they would be able to feel real progress, but it would be impossible to blow through them all in a day.

Then FDev can tweak the merits for however fast/slow they want system influence to take without affecting casual players.

Not a bad idea, but it does require more scrutiny on weekly assingments to make them more fair. No more hacking holoscreens where there is no holoscreens to hack, for example.

They should just add them all to the tech brokers... then module shoppers don't need to worry about powerplay.

They should also add the non-guardian tech broker modules to the powerplay merit system so there are more rewards to gain from PP too.

Edit: Also replace the mining lance with something else because it sucks.

There have been a few folks suggesting this - myself included - so, if you'll indulge me, I'll repeat my suggestion here:

  • Completing the weekly PP task list rewards the player with a PowerPlay Quartermaster Bond
  • These bonds can be exchanged with a Power Contact to unlock modules - permanently, even if you de-pledge from the power later
  • Module costs will depend on perceived "value":
    • Prismatics could cost 3 Bonds
    • Strong weapons like Pack Hounds and Imperial Hammers might cost 2 Bonds
    • Some of the weaker weapons (worse Thermal Conduit beam laser, I'm looking at you) could be just 1 Bond
This allows players to unlock modules of their choice at a reasonable - but controlled - rate whilst being required to engage in multiple game-play loops: good for the game and also stops one mechanism getting boring. Personally, I think 3 weeks to get prismatics - with just a few hours effort each week and then go back to doing whatever your want - seems entirely reasonable.

Meanwhile the Merit earnings can be balanced purely for tuning the rate at which Power influence can be impacted for the folks that are in-it for the long run.

I think this could keep the casual and the committed player base happy by ensuring everyone's playing time and playing style is respected whilst preventing a "race to the finish" for modules.

That would be fine too, though a little more complicated to implement.

Yeh - just seems in-line with the usual "weapon components" "guardian module schematics" and tech broker style unlocks in the game?

Also allows them to tune how quickly different modules can be obtained (i.e. make the really good ones more effort) without resorting to just putting them at the back of a 6 month queue!!

Oh yes, I have been suggesting this for years. Per module purchases like with modified AX weapons, for example. It would have especially made sense with PP 1.0 and it would still work with 2.0.
