Time for a break!

Well, it's been one year and four months since I started playing Elite. Made it to Elite in exploration, working my way towards Deadly and Tycoon. Have sold off all my ships more than once as a kind of way to restart without clearing my save (if it took me this long to get to those ranks I do NOT want to start from scratch in that regard).

I've written three short fan novels (well, first one is set in Oolite before ED came out), and would like to think I came up with a few helpful threads for people looking for ways to immerse themselves in the game (see licence links below)

But now it's time for a break.

Nothing against the game - in fact there isn't a game I've ever played in my LIFE this consistently, not even the previous incarnations of Elite. This is a personal gaming record for me.

But while we wait for 2.1 this is a chance for me to explore other horizons (heh). Getting back into pencil and paper RPGs, for example. Writing more. Trying other games with my friends (who sadly don't play ED). Or, you know, just getting out for a walk ;)

This isn't a goodbye thread, but a few of you have come to know me and might wonder if I dropped off the face of the earth. Don't worry, I'll be back. I've got a Lifetime Expansion Pass. I'll always be back :D

See you in 2.1!

(okay, I might still check the forums now and then - I'm not made of stone)

I see having a break as a natural thing. I personally cannot play a single game for more than a certain amount of time. When that time passes I need to have a break, change my mind with something completely different.

Since I discovered Elite Dangerous (which was more than a year ago) I've probably made 3 or 4 breaks. The good thing is that every time I come back there is new stuff in the game...

Last time I came back I saw the new ships and feel in love with the Cutter, which is now my current ship...

See you back commander, and rep for your good spirit..!

Yeah, I'm getting the urge to take a break before 2.1

There is one landmark I'm hoping to reach in the next couple of days and once I've reached that then I'll probably take a break until 2.1

Enjoy your time off o7

Enjoy the time out mate :) I'm always in the UK from June till November, barely touch any computer games. That's a long enough break for me!

Enjoy the break, Mossfoot. I'm pretty much doing the same thing myself. After testing/playing almost daily since the start of Alpha in December 2013, it was time to give it rest for a while.

Definetly the right thing to do. I'm on a break myself until 2.1 hits, playing other games and doing non-Elite things. Even if Elite is indeed fun, too much of a good thing isn't always a good thing.

Going away for a while might not be a bad thing.
Don't know if 2.1 is a good time to come back either (think it will though).
Personally, I find game updates much more exciting if there's a lot of new unknowns to be discovered (like a whole set of new gfx/ships, ui functions, gameplay additions and so on) and don't mind if these updates are much further apart.
Small semi-quarterly baby steps are nice for a while, but it can definitely wear out.
Anyway, never interacted with you as far as I know, but have fun with whatever you're going to do and welcome back in advance! ;)

Enjoy the break man, sort of taking an enforced one atm myself, work caused.

Just remember, be careful going outside, that sun thing, I hear it can burn you, and there's bears outside...might not be as much of a problem in the UK as it here is in the US, but you can't be too careful!
