Time for a Focused Feedback Session on the Missions System

CMDR’s,

A big chunk of the frustration, vitriol, and angst that I see in this game and on the forums are related to the limitations of Elite’s current mission system. It seems like many CMDR’s have good ideas on improvements that could be made, but none of us have the complete picture on how to get it just right. However, I really believe that if we could work with Frontier on this through a focused feedback forum we could fix some of these really longstanding issues that are holding this game back.

Why should the missions system shoot up to the top of the list?

Missions are in many ways at the heart of Elite Dangerous. But almost every post I see on the forums related to missions show that most CMDR’s are not happy with the way missions currently work in the game. I know that the missions system definitely causes me more frustration than any other aspect of the game and I am sure I am not alone.

How do we better scale the rewards so a pilot in a Sidey doesn’t make too much money too fast, but a grizzled Vet in a Cutter doesn’t feel like his time is being wasted with progression that is too slow.

Think of the endless gold rush then nerf cycles that crop up with each update. These anger both sides of the Cr/h debate and just cause ill will and frustration all around. This destructive cycle could be reduced significantly if core changes were made to missions.

We all know that board flipping is holding back other enhancements to the mission boards. Could Frontier offer us more mission choices without killing the servers if they didn’t have to worry about board flipping? They say it is on their list but is it a high enough priority? In a focus feedback session let’s help Frontier understand how important it is to get rid of this loophole so missions can be made more lucrative without worrying so much about abuse.

Frontier seems puzzled that many players are not happy with the wing missions. Space truckers have asked FOREVER for haulage missions that were optimized for Cutters and Annies, not just Pythons and T-7’s. Instead we got something optimized for wings. Adding the wing missions was good, but how about throwing solo Cutter and T-9 pilots a bone too and offer the 400-700t missions we’ve wanted since time began?

Can we tone down the RNG to make finding good missions easier?

Do we need to have a healthy debate about mission timers and making missions more friendly for those who play at irregular times or may only be able to have short gaming sessions at times? I for one would love to see mission timers suspended in game, just like notoriety is now.

Regardless of whether you agree with the specifics of the points I raised here, does anyone else agree with me that the next focused feedback session should be on the missions system?

Let’s stop spinning our wheels and looking at band-aids. Let’s work together with Frontier and get this right! If we fix Elite’s foundation (the missions) it will make the Beyond series of updates a much better place to spend our time. Because the Elite Dangerous galaxy is awesome and we all want to have as much fun here as we can!
