time from Hostile to neutral.......

I have been hostile with Empire for close to a month now, doing a minimum of 5 missions per day and getting the little blue arrow, but no movement. It is a little confusing, as I have gone from hostile to neutral, with an Empire faction. I will wait until I am friendly with said faction and see if Empire standing changes.

Arry.

I've posted this in another similar thread, there is a relatively easy but time consuming way to get your rep' back:

1) Go exploring for a while (a week or so....? More if you have the stomach for it).
2) Sell your data to an outpost that has the correct faction until you hit allied with that faction.
3) Switch to another outpost(with another minor faction obviously) and continue selling.

Rinse and repeat until you get back to neutral. I went from neutral to allied selling my data from my trip to Sag. A* to various outposts.

I need input. I know I have been whining on this thread but this last is very confusing. I took a mission that wanted 1 combat stabilizer. I went to another system and bought 10 figuring that mission would repeat sometime. flew back to starport giving mission and it won't take the combat stabilizer. I double checked the mission and I am at correct starport. it says thanks for getting the required item (or something like that) but give item tab does not work it is red. I am thinking I really am not smart enough for this game. this makes no sense at all to me. flame me if you want but explain this please.

edit: not only does the mission giver say thanks t hat is just what I am looking for BUT thje item does not show up in my cargo hold. I flew back to the system where I bought it, landed and lo and behold it is in my cargo hold...al 10. flew back t o offering starport and not in hold anymore

edit 2: actually it shows up in far right screen as 10 out of 100 but does not show in commidies area as item I can sell

If item is illegal in this station it won't show in commodities market because you cannot sell it legally. If station has blackmarket, you can sell it there. You always can see it in your cargo screen along with ILLEGAL marker.

Don't know why you cannot finish the mission via bulletin board though.

In any case, dealing with illegal cargo is very risky for your rep.

What could have happened : your combat stabilizers are illegal in the system you're trying to sell them / give them as mission goal. You were scanned by security ships on your way in => your cargo is now marked and cannot be sold anymore.

If that's the case, you'll have to dump your cargo (just not nearby the station or you'll get fined...) and try again, this time avoiding any scans on the way into the station.

Also, read your mission thoroughly: sometimes it requires that the commodity be stolen goods, in which case you'll have to use cargo scanners and limpets on NPC ships in various USS until you find what you're looking for and again, smuggle those goods into the station... That's basically most of your missions that have a skull head symbol.

And i concur with Starshoy: while you may gain some reputation with those missions, if you're found out holding illegal goods in your cargo, you will loose a lot of reputation.

Just because you took a mission that requires a combat stabilizer doesn't mean that the station is interested in buying them. Not all commodities are available for purchase or sale at a given station. That's probably what you're seeing.
.
Regarding the Federation status, you must take missions that are for factions that have alligience to the Federation. The bulletin board shows the faction that the mission benefits. If you don't know if that faction has allegiance with the Federation, then check the Info tab on the System Map for a station that is controlled by the faction of interest. I recommend doing missions for a given faction at multiple stations until you're Allied with that faction. Then move to another faction. Doing trade with the faction also helps but I think it takes longer than doing missions.
.
If you're bounty hunting to improve your relationship with a faction, NEVER attack ships that are associated with that faction no matter how large the bounty. I often will do missions for a specific faction just to overcome the negative impact of my bounty hunting ships that are associated with that faction. Hope this helps.

well it explains it at least. I think I need to stop playing this game. I make too many mistakes and then can not seem to recover. thanks to all who have helped and I will end this post and go think about it. too many things seem to be unexplained for an old guy like me. ty again and good bye.

I think "forever" isn't far off the mark. It took me about 5 weeks from "unfriendly" to "neutral", but stick at it. I don't know if the level of mission is important. Just keep doing anything in Fed space to Independent space, so you get "^" from Feds every time. Takes a while. Being Hostile makes it harder, so find an Independent system with a Federation station, usually around the edges of Fed space. Take heart. You'll make a small fortune en route! :)

anyone know about how many deliver/pickup missions I need to go from Federation Hostile to neutral? It seems to be taking forever and I am not making much progress as far as I can see.

Nope there are no stats. Some missions (or other activities) seem to give more rep than others.

I do know the climb up the ladder is a lot longer and harder than coming down the slippery slide from allied though..... Sorry about that

Bad acts are remembered for longer than good acts.

any chance you would share your vulture setup? also do I need to disable flight assist to actually do combat? as I said before I do not and have not done much combat at all. I suck at it big time so any advise would be helpful especially a setup

Check this out, http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=60N,5TP7Px3wU,2-6Q7_6Q5K7_6a5A,7Su05U.

I think its a decent Vulture build for RES farming and under 20 Mil credits. If you spend a bit more you could put beam lasers on and save yourself time going back and forth to re arm but it tends to put your power consumption right on the edge.

If the hostile status really bothers you that much (you could just move to the Empire or Alliance, hundreds of systems there!), I'd just chalk it up to experience and clear my save if I were you. And practice the combat tutorials. No sense in getting blown up 'for real' 50x, that is what the training simulator is for. :) As for the rest, you just learn more each day. Every Federation faction has a Federation icon before it in the mission board. If you want to improve your standing only do missions for factions that have the icon. And in the beginning just don't do anything illegal. There are tons of legal ways that pay better, and the thrill is not worth it until you've got a good grasp of how everything works. Concering Flight Assist: Leave it on for now, and practice it in the simulator when you've become comfortable with Flight Assist on. I destroyed dozens of ships before I turned it off the first time (intentionally, at least!).

And for what it is worth: I am currently unfriendly with the Empire and working hard to become Hostile. :)
