Time Remaining?

So…… Since everything is only progressing (storyline wise) for those individuals who have Odyssey, what is the no time line until we get the plugged pulled on consoles? Really would like to know since I am about halfway done with my lap of the Galaxy. Want to know if I will be able to finish it before the plug gets pulled. It is the one thing I have always said I was going to do since the beginning of GPP. I have very limited amount of time available for playing elite. My lap is a very slow progress. I figure at least a 2-3 months before I will finish it.

Hopefully I can get a decent response for this from Frontier.

Consoles will have at least until Frontier pull the plug on the PC 3.8 code base. At the moment they are saying that 4.0 will be optional for PCs, so they must at least be supporting compatibility patches for any changes in the BGS or anything which would otherwise render 3.8 unusable. Once the end of support for PC 3.8 is announced consoles will be on borrowed time.

For what feels like the millionth time: According to the CMs during the same Frameshift Live where they detailed console to PC account copy, there are no intentions to shut down the console servers. The 3.8 code base is going to stop receiving updates and be left in place for people who want to stay there/players on consoles. They aren't pulling the plug. No matter how many times people ask if they're going to.

Sometimes I wonder if y'all want it, with how often you ask.

Actually that's not correct either, Horizons players who play on the 4.0 codebase once it is updated will also see the story line progressing, just not the bits that require the legs part of Odyssey and new atmospheric planets, those on PC who choose to remain on the 3.8 codebase will see exactly the same content as console players.

I appreciate all of your replies, just hoping against hope that a dev will put on their big boy panties and answer this. I rather have things shot straight and not the beat around the bush kinda answers.

It likely going to be a finance Choice and nothing more so CM are not going to know...
Explaining to share holders When console platform cost more in bandwidth than they made in ARX sales may be a hard sell to share holder in the end with microsofts/sony cut in ARX sales prices, what you pay to frontier is NOT what you pay on the Xbox store ticket price...
IF every one realy does jump ship after transfer to PC/Geforce now, the Server and bandwidth cost and EDO server compliance update cost may result in no profit...
Ive not spent a single penny on arx for years, have you ( The midnight black paints were to good. )...

Tbh, I care not the semantics of PC dilemma as to advancing to 4.0 code bases vs staying on 3.8. Story progresses with 4. You have to have Horizons for 4. I will not have Horizons, as I will not buy a gaming PC, so I won’t be transferring my data. So the semantics of whether a PC player advances to 4 or doesn’t is a moot point to me. Completely irrelevant!

You care not for semantics? FDEV have always made it clear that consoles won't be getting updates apart from emergency bug fixes from now onwards, that's not semantics, I don't even understand why you are complaining if you are aware of that. You know it's not going to happen, you have been told clearly it's not going to happen for consoles, if you want to pretend that's all just semantics, good for you! PC user on Horizons will get the story and updates on codebase 4.0, that's a fact, not semantics.

Yeah I'm sure they had no intention of abandoning the console community either until they abandoned them

Same can be said for the VR, Mac community.
But yes consoles have been let down.
PCs as it stands are too expensive for the average casual gamer, so l don't know what their customer base focus is.

Console servers will be shut down next Spring. Let's bet on it. My prediction is that around March, Frontier will put up a forum post stating that "due to very low player numbers" (I wonder why), they "made the difficult decision" to shut down the game servers on consoles, delist the game from the online marketplaces and disable ARX purchases "with immediate effect".

I bet its Autumn.

I bet its Autumn.
They share the same amazon server farm as PC connection so it will be next winter 2023 after the next price increase from AWS as the more netflix tanks in viewers the less they are willing to be over charged by amazon so AWS has to put the price up to every one else as netflix wont be willing to pay amzon so high prices...

They wont shut AWS in Ireland off next winter 23 the console client will just not get a EDO compatibility update and the client on the console will just fail to log in after 4.0 gets an update...
With no series X/S title they could face pressure from microsoft to disable login to servers for the Xbox one title...
They dropped the title from gamepass and did not renew the deal with microsoft for that so microsoft is only getting a cut from the ARX sales...

Yes like they mentioned that elite oddyssee comes definitely for consoles and then cancelled it. I don’t believe in their words since then, or to go on a actual thing, what’s happens with the promised performance update ? Silenced so long down, till nobody ask for it. Or the planet tilling thing? More example of broken words? Antialiasing ? No topic for them at the moment? Always the same phrases ,,we are on it but now we must focus on Lore stuff,,. I only believe them after this messy situation when I see their promised things in the patch notes and in the game, till then always sceptic.

At this point where they told us that consoles are at the dead end, I expected a huge effort on technical site to make elite playable on the recommended pc specs, and until now you need a nasa pc to play elite on smooth 60 fps in a high grade ground war zone. And where are the critical updates for the consoles, I mean honestly my archive is still broken.

So it’s valid to ask, what will happens with the consoles, and it’s naturally that at some point every elite player will NEED version 4.0 to stick with the new stuff. And when this happens and nobody had a purpose to stay on 3.8 then the consoles will dying complete.

Perhaps it would help not do shut down every discussion on a forum where you at to discuss things, therefore, the words reads in some way disrespectful against the op, it’s not your job to implement semi aggressiv that you are annoyed. You had the right to overead this topic. 👍

Yeah, And steam/epic didn’t get any penny from a sale from elite or the arx Nice logic 👍 has you got a link which explain exactly this? That arx are only charged by Sony and frontier? I mean your comment looks like you are really save with this stetement.

Reading between their words, shows more then clear that they had at the moment a desert in their pocket for elite to bring everything what they want together. But hey let’s cut off a huge marked to expand the desert in the pocket. They knew that it would cost a lot to fix all the problems after the release of elite on pc, and they knew that Sony would be very critical with the state of the game when it was released on the same time on consoles, we had it before with cyberpunk, so the only good thing is, that it hasn’t hit the consoles, because the outcry would be much louder when again a game is so underperforming that it would be removed from a gameservice plattform. And especially when it comes down to an franchise which opens so many doors in the Industrie.

But hey little hope is there, because after the transfer why should the console account should be exist further? I little open door to perhaps comes back to consoles ? Who knows on frontier there is everything possible

Fdev give the user a Choice on PC buy direct and give them 100% of your money via arx store via Direct Fdev store.. the game was a kick starter that never used steam till late
There no requirement to even use steam/epic.. Console have no other option but to be forced TO lose 30% when they sell ARX to Microsoft/sony...
With the transfer to PC there was NO free version on steam/epic offered. you had to had to have a FDEV only version Or PAY for a EPIC version your self...
The PC servers access are not lowering in user count there gaining players from the transfer.. .
But every single player on console is a 100% only able to buy from console price store... Fdev removed ED from gamepass so they allready dont agree to microsoft to keep the deal going...

To be honest I don't see the console version see the end of 2023 before they shut it down completely.
I don't trust Frontier anymore, the way they've treated the console community is beyond words so don't expect them to have any sympathy at keeping the game online for console either.

As we know with Frontier, plans can change.

There was no intention to pull the plug on the macOS client, until they did.
