Time Taken to Switch between VR and Screen?

How long does it take to connect the Rift (or another one) and change the settings in-game, then switch them back again when you want to go back to regular playing on your screen etc?

With the price drop in the Rift and my recent exposure to VR (played Minecraft in VR - WOOOWWWW) I'm' thinking about taking the plunge and buying a VR setup. However, I wouldn't use it all the time - when the rest of the family is awake and wandering around the area etc I wouldn't want to be wearing my headset. Is the time taken to connect the Rift or another system and change the settings in-game prohibitively long if I plan on switching back and forth between using VR and not using VR? I wouldn't want to be spending 5 minutes messing with my computer's setup and the in-game settings every time I want to play ED in VR - but if it can be done fast I'll probably take the plunge and buy it.

I have the profiler but I never changed settings via the profiler while the game was running. Is that possible? (cant test atm)

I've changed it with the launcher open (which is fine). Not sure about if I'm in game I'll test.

EDIT

As I expected, no it doesn't change once the game starts, that utility just updates text that's read on starting the game so you'd have to go back to the launcher or manually change the VR setting in Options, the resolution under Display in Options and alter the sound output if using the Headset headphones (windows tray). Manually changing them is slightly faster than exiting the game to launcher and switching but that's slightly easier to do.

Either way if you're taking 5 minutes to do it then your PC probably isn't up to running VR anyway.
