Would be great if you could get a great ship in a variety of ways to make it fair for those that don't have so much disposable time to (grind) play, maybe station lotteries or abandoned ships hidden in some hard to reach systems, not that having an epeen ship is all that important but it is to some.

What the blazes... 5000 hours? I don't think any of the people who voted on that actually realize HOW MUCH TIME THAT IS. 5 hours a day every week = 75 hours. That's 66 weeks, which is reasonable IMO.... BUT! how many of you are going to put FIVE HOURS A DAY into this game? Let's be more realistic. 2 hours a day. That's 357 weeks.... AKA ALMOST SEVEN YEARS. Do the math before you vote guys..

At least 10.000 hours.

Ouch. That will only serve to encourage hacks / exploits / cheats IMO.... Or in-game micro transaction requests from some. I agree that these things should take time, but not that much. I have a family, a job and a life.

This game is to get to Elite. That means killing other pirates and such. Everyone going to have there own end game ship. That can be a Anaconda or a Eagle.

The Elite status can take 10,000 hours...fine... but the ships, excluding all the extra's, I hope not.

I very much doubt it'll take anywhere near that amount of time...

In beta i'am already "expert" rank and that has taken only a few weeks.

As to the ships i'd say about 5,000 hours is fine for one of the largest/most expensive ships... but then i'am a pretty hardcore gamer and expect to be playing 6-10 hours a day.

I know some players cannot spend that amount of time gaming etc but i have a lot of free time, no work at the moment and will invest daily toward my goals. All-nighters won't be out of the question at all and then day times too ;)

Well, that really depends on what the most expensive ship will be. I do think that they will add larger ships (=capital in eranin atm) but if you vote on it at this moment with the anaconda as most expensive ship i think 5k is far to much. I do hope though that they won't make it too easy to get the bigger ships (really like they way eve is doing it).

With average playing, couple of hours a day, you can get into the freighter, at which point, you will be making several hundred thousand credits per trip.. so 10 million credits per day (or 5 million credits / hour).

Highest cost ship is what, 150 million credits?

You can jump ship to ship until you get what you want. You know sell one ship to buy another ship.

I know that of course, but that was not the point of my reply...

10,000 hours as posted by _Agamemnon_ would be, imo, ridiculous just to get the most expensive ship (the ones we know about) which if that is the case, obviously all other ships would scale in value at a relative rate. So that relatively affordable hauler won't be so affordable... it could be hundreds of hours before you could reach it.

Then on top of that there are the weapons, modules and upgrades to pay for, that's not even taking into consideration multiple ship ownership.

Also, I am not saying that is my primary goal either...The most expensive ship is not the end game...as with any ship, its a means to navigate the 400b systems we are being given in a bit more luxury and perhaps utility, in order to perform whatever task(s) you enjoy doing in Elite. But at 10,000 hrs that would probably take me 10 years. Lol

I'm assuming there will be an evolving universe with new alien races and new shiny ships to get our hands on.
If the only thing we will find out there in the galaxy is unexplored systems without anything in them this game will die long before that.

Wow. 62 people on this forum are completely, pants on head, insane.

Actually, I don't care so long as the ship below that is a quarter of the time.

Stunned...

Actually these types of poll are inherently misleading due to the granularity of the low end.

Sure this shows a majority selecting 5000 (!?) hours but if the poll had only two entries of 250 hours and 5000 (!?) hours, the 250 would win hands down.

Actually it will be about 10 minutes if FD allow real cash for credits.

I would be fine with that as well although I would never buy credits it is better than a subscription.

5000 hours is nuts. 500 to 1000 max. 100 is too low though

I went with other as I'm hoping (and from PB to G it's felt this way) that it's not the destination but the journey which is the enjoyable thing with Elite.
