Engineers Time to revamp collector limpets?

Collectors should last like 5 mins per drone, not one drone per material, it's a joke.

They should launch and you should be able to select what mineral or material they should collect, then they should hover around until you mine a fragment or material of that type and collect it, return it to your hold and then continue until their timer/battery/fuel runs out.

One done per material..... Bah!

YOU can Scoop 100 materials with one drone !!! just dont select a material , fly near the materials then DONT selcet one just shot out a DRONE and it will scoop one after anther material up to 5 mins one drone can last....

I've never understood why, if you target a single item, if the limpet then self destructs once it's fetched it? How daft is that?

As for a single drone collector on ships as standard, I've suggested that before as well, and generally always got shot down.

Yeah, when they announced that design i was pretty sure it was an april fool (it WAS 1st april!)!
Unfortunately it wasn't and they were actually designed to increse the space pollution!

I believe it was for being able to dispatch a Limpet to collect a specific item of cargo amongst a group of canisters, such as getting the black box from a debris could, especially if under a sense of urgency/attack

But if there's 20 items around, 5 of which you want, and the other 15 you don't. You'd have to use 5 limpets to get them. Daft! That or get all 20, then start jettisoning the ones you don't one... Which is also daft!

This thread makes me so bitter. Where were you guys when limpets were introduced? Off farming in a res?

Sorry im just bitter cus these type of sugestions gained no traction back when the paint was still wet...

I agree with the sugestions!

Not so much that every ship should now come with them as standard.. manual scooping is ok especially in a small ship.
It would also be nice if you could move walst collecting cargo with them!

I personally think the ships should be able to collect materials as standard without manually scooping. Not mining materials but those engineering specific ones.

That said, this suggestion of storing limpets in the module themselves would certainly make things a lot better :) I swap ships a lot for different tasks, and being told to remove limpets before swapping, and subsequently forgetting to add them again before heading off is just a pain in the rear end.

I think they are actually fine. I regularly fly a Type 6 and have no issue storing 50-60 limpets (some prospector and most collector). My only issue with them is the fact that I jettison or jettison (abandon) something manually they go and re-collect it! Now THATS daft!! Isn't my ship marking them with a dang tag or something so they don't show up as illegal cargo? So why are my drones so that they cant check the stupid tag ahead of time?

I've found myself surprisingly happy with just using manual scooping in 2.1. I find the precision flying fun, at least in my Courier.

But yeah 2.1 is clearly highlighting that collectors need some more love.

The only people who used collectors prior to 2.1 were miners and pirates, pretty much the smallest groups in ED by far lol, now everyone has to use them their problems get highlighted more - but it also means were much more likely to get a change.

They do last 4-7mins each, if they are expiring per collection then you are doing it wrong! Read up and try again.

I'd like if it NPC pirates didnt get over excited when you have a cargo load of limpets. For heaven's sake, they are only 100CR each!

Tell that to the 5 NPCs that blew up my ship last night! I've checked the video footage I recorded and they defo opened fire first. All I was carrying was limpets.

Report that as a bug, because beta 5 introduced the "pirates ignore limpets" change. Sounds like that got reverted somehow.

Did they say anything before opening fire? Some NPCs are killers rather than pirates, you can tell from their opening line (things like "scans are for wimps" are a giveaway).

Are you teelling me that when I mine I chip a rock, Item A, collector gets it, but when I chip off Item B the same collector ignores it?

Important question because some of my collectors give up working and sit behind my ship.

No he didn't do anything wrong... sadly FD did...
If you want to collect a specific item and targeting it, the drone expires just after collecting it.
They last up to 12 minutes if you don't target anything collectable. But then they collect all illegal stuff around you too.
The whole collector thing is not thought through. I have to carry 30 tons of limpets around and they frequently crashing into debris.
And once deployed, they have to follow you around while fighting in RES. All very annoying and not fitting into such a brilliant game on so many bases.

I think the drones should not be cargo and they should not expire. Simply 1 or more drones should be available simultaneously depending on the size of the limped controller.

And the different controller types are annoying as well... same as all the scanner types. With the need of the point defences there is no room for Cargo/Warant/Wake Scanner. Please make them available as an software upgrade for the ship scanner.

And pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease make a keybind for them... firegroup switching for scanning is.... hnnnnnnnnnnnnng...

Given FD have now made a limpet controllers so much more important (if you're the least bit interested in crafting), it would be nice to be able to get a single dedicated limpet controller built into ships now, with a single perminent (multi-purpose) limpet?

If you want more collecting power, then buy the modules already available!?

At the very least this new variant should be able to collect, but it would be nice if it could also deliver X amount of fuel at a time too.

Why allow it to deliver fuel? Because that means all CMDRs can deliver fuel at least in a very basic way, therefore opening up rescue missions across the board, instead of having to outfit specifically for it.
