Newcomer / Intro Time to upgrade ships?

So, I have about 220k credits and my adder is worth about 400k. My question is would a fairly stock cobra be better than a semi equipped adder?

No. :)

The usual recommendation is to have at least three times the stock price before buying a new ship. It's worth the wait, else you'll feel like you downgraded somehow. (An E-Cobra is not really fun, and basic 4D components alone are 60k each for FSD, power plant and thrusters, 10k for the the power coupling, and the cheapest medium weapon is 17k as well.)

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I will wait a little while.

If you are in trading, I would switch immediately. You can get 60 cargo space with Cobra and the upgrade doesn't cost much, I think something like 34k per slot. Of course you want to make sure you have enough credits to fill the cargo space :)

Having recently experienced a Cobra, I can definitely attest to A-rated thrusters giving it much-needed agility. Something I was in need of during earlier interdiction events. Definitely hold off until you can afford at least those. They're well worth it.

For trading yes, the Cobra is vastly superior to the Adder and you only need about 500K to kit it out as a Trader. You'll be at 2 million in no time, which you won't be if you stick to the Adder.

Just don't fly without having the insurance cover.
