I dont have the alpha myself, but from what I've seen the effects that were just added can't be timed/synced up with other objects.
I think it would be awesome if you could time these with cetain sections of a roller coaster, for example, you ride above a lava pit and you want fire to shoot up right as you go over it. In my idea you would configure the effect to play when the coaster car hits a section of the track, which is chosen by the user.
I also thought this could branch out to objects such as the Cthulhu model or the cannons, where it would be really cool if we were able to ensure that Cthulhu pops up right as we hit a certain point on the coaster, or a cannon "fires" at us when we come to it.
