Timing is everything - New exploration CG in Galnet News

Thanks (NOT!). Just got back and sold thousands of systems' worth last night. Really??? Guess I'll head back out into the black. Good news, CMDRs... this one's a month long. Plenty of time to get back!

Thanks for the heads up.

Currently out and about, although not 100% if I'll be back to drop off any data for them in time.

What isn't clear is the reward, if any for dropping it off at Goldstein Port.

PS: What was the reward or perk last time around?

The last 'exploration' CG only got to tier 3 (but it only lasted a few days) and paid out 3 million credits to the top 5% of contributors. Other recent CGs that got to tier 8 have paid out 20m. I believe this one potentially goes as far as tier 10 and if it reaches that then the payout should be a lot higher. It's anyone's guess what the number of systems (*) will be required for top 5% but I would anticipate most serious explorers returning within the time frame would easily qualify for the top 5%.

* - I can't imagine it has changed, so as with previous exploration CGs you'll get one 'report' for each system you've discovery scanned, the actual number of ELWs or CFTs you've scanned doesn't matter

I just returned from a short trip, handed in 300 reports & made the top 5%. Hasn't quite made tier 1 yet, but plenty of time left :)

As much as I'd love to, I feel like my current expedition will not end until the holidays, lol.

Currently sitting on 3k systems. I may return if I fail to maintain hull integrity well enough, though. It's been about a month since I set out and I am at 92%.

I likely won't be back in time. I'm currently 700 LY outside "The Bubble" headed towards the galactic perimeter. I'm fastidiously scanning every astronomical object in each system I visit. It takes time.

The one month timeframe is only if Tier 10 isn't reached before that, though. It could theoretically end earlier.

hi all

i hope you dont mind me asking (noob of one month here) I got a bit bored raising credits by blasting at RES sites in a bells n whistles vulture. Im not sure I've ever seen another real player! My instincts were to get out of dodge asap and it has been ok so far.

Yesterday I wanted to fetch a viper from a long way away (relative to my vulture) so bought a flying biscuit tin (Type 6), put some defences and shields and shield boosters (i can hear the purist jeering this) so I could safely and quickly go and sell my other ships components to fund an asp purchase - i put the disco horn and detailed scanner on and found I'm actually liking it... for now Im sticking with the biscuit tin... I'm not sure but I think it might be falling apart! from heat damage or so many jumps?

I need to go and read Nutters guide (?) when i can find it later tonight... but i had a couple of openers for you all if that's ok...

My biscuit tin keeps getting damaged (i do have one E2 repair unit on board) but do i need to limit my travels ?
Also... when do i use a heat sink? (% wise) i am not sure... never used it yet... just now

Should i be scanning every planet?

Does the price you get for data rise the further away from the discovery or should i cash in asap on return?
Can i jump into my fighter to safely do this or do i have to cash in only in my tin?

Can you get to any of the nebulas / other features?

Any help appreciated... !

At the risk of being accused of shameless self promotion - but I will :), if you are flying the flying brick T6 have a peek at the ramblings in the the T6 thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116861 - contained within the many posts are some great T6 suggestions, set up etc

Good luck and safe flying

Possibly a silly question, however.....

To take part in this CG do you need to sign up before you set off, or can you just return from a trip out, sign up and then sell your current data?

On Previous CGs I've arrived with data or the required cargo; signed up then sold it to get the CG credit.
So Anyone coming back from a long trip should be laughing (Just don't forget to sign up before you sell or you'll be kicking yourself for days.) :)

You definitely need to sign in prior to turning anything in for the CG. As to your other question, I'm not sure what top contributors got, since the CG was so short. This one may hit Tier 10, especially if folks start tagging systems (single honk counts as a "scan").

That's how I started my latest run. Set it for economical route, and picked a spot "up and left" to a star 700ly away. Jump in, honk, hit the jump key and check system map quickly. Stop only if something good close by. 500ly of short jumps and I've only first discovered three system (out of about a hundred jumps so far). However, once I get into undiscovered country, I'll put on my vegetarian suit and start scanning everything. I may make a daily run and see how I do. I'm not into grind/honking, but we'll see...

Oh, and those in Open, be careful. Already, there were three CMDRs interdicting folks. They're loving the unarmed targets, I'm sure.

it depends on why it's getting damaged, and what is getting damaged. Are you emergency dropping a lot? Are you overheating a lot? These will effect the answer. A T6 can take you all the way to the core and back and stay out for a long long time.
when do i use a heat sink?
Primarily heat sinks are used for dropping your temperature after youve accidentally fallen into a gravity well by jumping into a close binary or getting too friendly with a Black Hole or Neutron Star, these bodies heat you up quite a bit being near them, and you can damage yourself from heat if you jump before cooling off with a sink.

That's up to you!
No, you can cash it in anywhere, but you can earn reputation or participate in CG's with the data though so you might want to pick the right station.
You can sell it from another ship, like bounties.
It really depends on the feature, you'll have to get out there and explore to find out!

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll bear it in mind, but I possibly won't rush back for it. Shame it wasn't running next month, a greater chance of being back for it.... Maybe next time.
