Tip-Off Advice anyone?

Hi all!

So, im a total noob to the whole base assault thing IE, enter hostile base, turn stuff on/off to get data packet. By noob i mean i've literally never done one because....Well i dunno why just because.

Anyway i received a Tip Off the other day just delivering some passengers and it said if i go to some planet at some coords in a system 8 jumps away they want some data. Sounded cool gave it a shot and headed over.

What i was greeted with was a base that, well i didn't actually get near it.

The base had a 2km intrusion zone, 3 Anacondas circling it, and drones patrolling. I decided to land outside the zone send my Annie away because i already had a feeling where this was going and headed in. Once in i was raking up a 1k fine every 5-6 seconds for being inside, the 3 Annies started raining down fire on me and the skimmers started chasing me, i was quickly destroyed and i didn't even see the base :).

Anyway at this point i figured 1 of possibly 2 things:

1. Most likely; I've done it entirely wrong, in which case, help? :D
2. Its a mission for a group..This would be really cool but afaik there are no group specific missions in the game so.

Anyway, cheers

Oh and for Verm, no Thargoid related content here ;).

Most Tip-Offs lead to a crashed ship of some kind, rather than a base.

Occasionally you get one that dumps you on top of a huge base like you found. I think those are bugged, just like the ones that send you to a non-existent planet.

I stopped doing them after a while, and now that they've nerfed the payout the only reason to do one is for the experience of it (it IS cool a few times).

Anyway, if you get the base, you're out of luck. A lone pilot has no chance there, and even if you got in I don't think you'd find the crashed ship to scan. It's just a bugged mission.

Haha ouch so i was really unlucky then. Cheers for the info :D.

Tip offs are a waste of time. I did a few, sometimes i could not even find the wrecked ship and the payouts where around 800k for selling the data.
That kind of money and even more you can make in like 10 Mins with a big trading vessel while travel to that location usually takes you much more time.

The only thing that would make tip offs worthwhile would be if you can get materials or ship parts there or choosing a reward when selling the data.

If you're money motivated only - probably not worth bothering unless you're broke and clueless.

If the fun you derive from the game is variety of experiences? Then it may be fun doing a couple.

I actually like the fun element. There are plenty of easy (and extremely dull ways) of making money. But variety is the spice of life.

Grumpy McTwitchyTurrets I called it.

Well, and a few other things the forum won't let me post.

Yeah, I've banged my head off that particular brick wall a few times, sacrificing my beloved (but cheap) DBS over and over trying to find a weak spot, but not willing to commit a bigger ship 'cos it just looks too hard.

The really frustrating part for me was that I did get into the base, then cocked it up spectacularly by panicking, sliding my SRV over the edge of a ramp and getting it wedged sideways between the ramp wall and some equipment.

Stop laughing.

Not that I haven't tried, but going into a big, hostile base in an SRV just makes me feel like a bug waiting to be squished.

Yeah I got sent to a base the other day. Joke was on the base. A buddy and I rocked up in Engineered Anacondas and SRV's. Base is dead now.

Money is no motivation; very easy to make money in this game. I just choose what to do based on what i want to do money or not :).
