i got one in supercruise during imperial rank up missions. data cache was worth 500k and the planet was ~200ly away...

not the top paying thing to do, but it adds variety to the menu.


(even better if i had a cool orientation marker already in supercruise and not in orbital cruise...)

Yes, I suggested FD add manual map markers on planets for these kind of missions. It "needs" to happen. We'd still have to pinpoint the spot on the surface planet, then fly to it and pick up the reward.

I've never received a tip-off so far so I'm kinda curious what the trigger is for getting one. Do I need to be friendly with a local faction or something? Anyone got an idea?

I had been doing some missions in a system and I was friendly / allied with nearly every faction there so that maybe a requirement.

When you think about it it is a "tip off" so maybe not something you would hand out to just some stranger passing through.
