Tips and Tricks needed, please help. (beluga liner)

ok i have been playing for a few weeks now and i wanted to do passenger missions. so i bought a beluga liner, to help me do passenger missions. but i am having a huge problem with this ship lol. every single time i go through the "mail slot" for any space station I GET STUCK. i need any help i can get with this. i line my self up in the middle of the mail slot but get stuck somewhere in the middle. then the countdown begins until i die for loitering or trespassing or what ever. I have no choice half the time but to LOG OUT. sometimes if theres a timer it wont let me log out so i have to alt-ctrl-dlt and close the game out. thats the only fix i know of to un jam this thing. its to the point where i died 3 times now because of this , i had 30 million when i got on today to make "tons of money" doing passenger missions, so far i lost 15 million because the ship costs me 5 million to repair. i also lost about 3 hours of time to this as well maybe more. every time i get a bounty for blocking the entrance or something, i dont even know why im getting a bounty for getting stuck. but when i do, i go to pay it and it automatically boots me to a detention center, its so far from where i just was. it literally takes me an hour IRL to get back to where i was . Its so damn frustrating, all because my ship keeps getting stuck... i bought 7 maybe 8 ships so far and this is the only ship that cant make it out of the damn mail slot. the type-9 heavy never got stuck so ... i know its probley just me. but its to the point where im about to go play something else out of frustration after spending the short time i had in this game grinding the anaconda, python, vulture, type-7, type-9, asp-explorer and others. so i dont wana just quit because the devs couldnt make simple things in the game function correctly. with that said yea i have gotten in and out successfully but im just getting stuck way way more then not getting stuck. ....... for now ill just use the docking assistant to land and just log out when i go to leave the station. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED Thanks

me venting: hey devs, i know i have been playing for a very short amount of time and i know it probably just me. But seriously why is the mail slot entrance so damn little with ships in the game that are huge? its like you did this on purpose to people off mainly me lol. How has this game been out for 3 years and no-body every suggested to make the mail slots a little bigger? the beluga getting stuck should be considered a bug !! this has been ruining my gaming experience with elite dangerus ALL DAY. i cant even switch the camera mode to see better, if i do the second i get close to the slot it loses signal? thats dumb as **** i cant even use things in the game to help my self. theres a docking assistant or what ever its called , but this damn beluga needs a "get you out of this damn station with out getting stuck " assistant . PLEASE FIX THIS

If you go out, you should use your thrusters only to go "up" until you line up with the mailslot. Then fly forward without yaw or pitch, just roll to keep your ship level with the slot.
Remember, the Beluga has a fat tail with wide fins at the rear, so not going through lined up will cause you to get stuck.

Going in is similar, you have to line up with the red light in the rear of the port and the mailslot in the front, then go in only rolling.
Keep in the middle of the slot both going in and out.

Look out for other vessels, give them way, as NPCs are suicidal, and don't speed.

I flew a beluga for the first time today with no issues. I went low through the slot and didn't try pitching til the tail was clear (a judgement call I know from flying other big ships).

I'd suggest go for the middle of the slot as you did, but to the bottom, and give yourself extra time to clear the rack. When coming in, line up early rather than swooping in, at least til you're used to it...

Otherwise, it's much like an orca.

Good luck with it. Let me know what worked for you in the end. And if all else fails, try a docking computer.

The mail slot is actually huge, you could stand the Ariane 5 rocket in there upright with metres to spare. The Beluga is a tricky beast though, largest player ship in the game, those massive fins means you only have around 13 meters to spare.

Your best bet is to fit a docking computer, watch how it does it, then practice (preferably without paying passengers onboard). Just take an empty ship and keep practising.

You can't call human error a bug in the game. Plenty of Cmdrs (including myself) that get her though the slot without issues... Once again, just practice. Considering you have only been playing a few weeks, jumping into the game and flying the biggest ship probably isn't the best course of action.

The main issue with the Beluga is that it's the biggest flyable ship, the cockpit is at the front, and stations rotate. In Flight Assist mode (the default), your rotation ceases as your cockpit passes through the mailslot, and then everything can start going wrong if you're moving too slowly.

Try toggling FA-Off as you reach the mailslot. You will go out spinning with the station.

thanks for the help guys. i really appreciate it . i will be trying all the tips as best as i can. ill just use my anaconda eventually next time i get stuck wich will probley be in an hour when i get back from leaving this detention center . THANKS

i would like to add, in my opinion getting stuck shouldnt even be possible, its really horrible. makes me feel like the game is broken ( i know its me not the game) but thats just how i feel about that after getting stuck and losing time and money lol. but at least now though i know i can just log out or close my game out entirely, before when i died 3 times because of this i didnt know that .

edit: when i bought this ship the thought of "i might get stuck" never crossed my mind. i dont buy ships with out watching reviews, i knew it was the biggest ship in the game because of that. but no body ever said in the reviews that you can easily get stuck lolol. if there was a warning label lol maybe id have had 2nd thoughts . lol

lets keep it simple. you want to get close to the bottom of the mail slot. It should look like you are going to scrape it. You will clear every time.

Hi there - currently taking a 'luga on DW2. My advice - git gud :) (It does get easier, I have barely hit the slot at all recently).

Console yourself :)

He spent a good couple minutes there. I was hoping the station was going to open fire but it didnt :(

ill have my anaconda to fall back on, but im kind of even more determined now to "git good" with this damn thing. with it being the biggest, makes me think of them boeing 747 and airbus a380 pilots that fly the biggest passenger planes lol.

Plenty of room to fit a conda through there...

Iv gone thru the wrong lane enough times to learn to respect the red light. :)

Anaconda...there are marks on the sides of the station round the slot. Look at the pictue i posted, they go 3 3 3 1 1 1. There is a notch on your hud. Put that notch between the top and middle line on where there is 3 lines. Lol i hope thats clear. But doing that, so long as you line up right you can boost out.

Keep it centered, keep it low and keep it level. If you don’t you’ll get the tail snagged in the toast rack every time.

Playing for a few weeks and owning a Beluga liner... It's not your fault of course, but a result of the crazy payouts, but you hardly learned to fly smaller ships (which is not meant as an insult of course, but just pointing out that there is lots and lots to learn about flying a ship in Elite) and now you have trouble steering that whale through the slot. Which is perfectly understandable. The Beluga is a challenge, and also meant as a challenge.
I say, give it time, use a few smaller ships and do different things. Also, take the Beluga into a planetary ring perhaps or to a low G planet with a few nice canyons to get used to its dimensions.
I did lots of passenger runs with a Beluga myself and I can confirm that it fits perfectly through the slot. You just have to go through absolutely straight and be aiming correctly (which is not that easy and takes practice).

But really, the actual thing that went wrong is (in my opinion) that new players get money too fast and fly ships they have a hard time controlling because they can't possible have had enough fly time.

Anyway, fly safe, and I hope you'll be able to get your whale under control soon. o7

EDIT: what just came to mind is multicrewing. Another player can take the seat next to you and talk you through the docking procedure. He/she can also use the external camera. Might be helpful.

Or the OP could ride along while someone else flies it, and sees from inside and outside how to fit

Or, just fit a docking computer and see how it is supposed to be done... You can even drop the gear before hand for a slower approach through the access corridor.

true, true...
And we'll be here to offer advice and condescension, and probably giggle a bit if you mess up... but we'll help too, as much as we're able.
