Tips & Suggestions: 'Galaxy Map' with OR

Setup your HOTAS to fly through the gal map like you are controlling a ship. I also use voice attack to auto select and plot routes while in the rift.

You should be able to find plenty of tutorial posts on this forum

This. Use your HOTAS. Mouse pointers are plain awful in pretty much all menus, especially the galaxy map.

Using Galaxy Map in the Rift

Hi all,

I've seen posts here before with hints and tips for getting the galaxy map to work with the rift and setting it up with Hotas settings.

However I can't seem to find them now - could someone kindly link back to those or help me out?

My main issue (I think like many others) is that when I'm in the galaxy map, it's almost impossible to select a system and plot a rout to it, because putting the pointer on the system and clicking either does nothing, or it selects some other system way out in the distance.

Sometimes you can get the system to come up by moving the pointer to some random other place on the screen, but sometimes it's almost impossible.

Is there no key binding you can use to cycle between the systems that are in your foreground view manually?

Also on a related question - how do I use the system map with my hotas - does that use the same key bindings as the galaxy map, and again is there any way to cycle between all the systems without using mouse?

cheers.

Make sure you bind all the movements to keys or better to HOTAS controlls, then don't use the mouse at all. I don't think the mouse works reliably at all.

As the kindly droid above states, dont use your mouse pointer. Remap all functions to your HOTAS.
For me the Galaxy map is a joy with my HOTAS setup. Better than a mouse. It takes a bit of fiddling but well worth it.

Plus if you rotate your point of view up 20-30 degrees, it's easier to use the crosshair to target a system. I usually use Voiceattack to rotate the view.

I think I must be doing something wrong because even when I map all my view controls to keyboard and/or hotas I don't ever see a crosshair appearing. I only see a mouse pointer if I move the mouse. I can rotate the view, move rights, left and every which way but I don't see a crosshair or any way to select a system until I move the mouse.

I use an X52-Pro for the Galaxy map controls (with a DK2). Here are a couple of screenshots of my controls setup (there's an overlap between the controls in the 2 screenshots):

You have to rotate the view up to see one. Here's a previous thread from here that had a couple of videos that shows the crosshair well. There are some tips in the thread as well:

Reviving this thread as i have a strange issue when using the System Map in VR.

Once system map opened and i am scrolling the planets (when exploring a new system), every so often once the cursor floats over a planet (my intention would be to lock onto it) immediately the screen jumps to a black and white wireframe schematic of the planet and the left information pane shows 'Planetary info' or the like.

Frustrating to say the least.. doesnt seem to be a pattern to it, most planets are fine and i can float cursor over them then select lock.. just occasionally i get this blip. When a planet does this, its impossible to lock onto it via the system map no matter if i exit then go in and try again.

Not sure if i have explained this well.. might be a silly user error. Any ideas?

This is standard Horizons functionality.

It is showing a planetary map of a planet/moon that you can land on. It shows planetary bases, if there are an on the planet.

Scrolling in or out will activate/deactivate it.
