I have had to self destruct several times, loosing 20,000 invested credits. Because of being stranded. I would buy a hauler and then limit my cargo to 2-3 (depending on what sliders say I can handle in galaxy map) and head on my 4-5 jump journey. But when I get one jump away from destination I'll find I don't have enough fuel. Then I find out that there is no port nearby either. So I'll go to setting a jump back to the last jump in search of a port to find it's too far of a jump as well! I put up a distress beacon and the fuel offered is beyond my budget (Broke from investing on the shipment). At my last resort I start to jettison my cargo only to find that I am truly stranded....again!!!

Now I have done this several times and each time I believe I'm checking my bases before I leave. I will admit My algebraic equations and algorithms may be off (haha). But there is no reason why computer's math should be off that bad.

I just needed to rant cause I feel like I have wasted a lot of time getting so far and then having to start over. By now there is little bits of me all over the galaxy.

just use the distress beacon. you will get your ship refueled for the cost of 1000 credits if you are stranded in space. its in menu 4 not far away from the landing gear and cargo bay functions.

Always have some money for emergency refuel. Or if you are running low on fuel and basically have fuel for 1 jump only may be it is a good idea to refuel.

I'd like to know about the existence of a port only if I've actually been within sensor range, or if I've come across maps or other information leading to knowledge of said stations.

Obviously some ports will also be common knowledge at the start of the game.

I would stop doing what clearly does not work then.
there is a "getting started" guide on here that has you up and running with high profits and a fast path through all of the ship types.

Once you have the appropriate ship and armaments then you can go wherever you like.
I've only been here a few weeks and now have the Anaconda and 2million to spare.

So it is not that hard to do (I am a rubbish pilot, and if I can, so can you).

Good Luck Commander!

I'd like to see a potential distance shown not just when adding looty to the booty, but also when I plonk a death ray 4000 on I want to know that I can no longer make it to that fight I'm about to tool up for...

How do you run out of fuel??? just refuel every time you land and don't let it get low.

it's not rocket science so if you can't cope with that simple task i reckon you ought to be really worried about being able to walk AND talk at the same time.

Well if you are doing a multi jump and some of them don't have station this is bound to happen. Almost happened to me once at beta 1.0 where there were no restrictions to the missions and took one for 14ly on a hauler, once I half way realized I didn't have enough. Thankfully I had enough for the closest station.

This is bound to happen more often when the full galaxy is open. Not every single system will have a station
