Tired of high insurance premiums, go simple, go small

First off, let me say I'm a noob compared to a lot of people here. I've been playing the game since I got my Vive last August. Worked my way up the ships -- Cobra (MK III), Asp Explorer, FAS, Python, Anaconda. Mostly been a trader -- made much of my money running Med Diag Equipment into Sol and doing missions in the local area. Some pirate & terrorist hunting. Been running the 'conda for a month or so and have it C/B rated, with the 8C components all modded to perform near A levels, so until I have a pile o' cash, it doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade further. I play mostly in private groups -- mobius lately, and there aren't many NPC's that can stand up to a modded Anaconda. Been getting a little bored running cargo and picking up missions here and there and wanted to try something different, so I bought a Viper Mk IV and A-rated it. Been having a blast doing a variety of combat and scouting missions, plus a little powerplay. At a rebuy cost of half a mil' (compared to over 10M for the 'conda), I'm not worried about losing it. Most missions are at least the replacement value of the ship if not double. It's fast, maneuverable, dogfights last much longer, and dropping into combat is challenging again. I'm sure I'll go back to the Anaconda, at least when multicrew comes out, but for now, I'm enjoying the Viper. Anyways, as they say, bigger is not always better. If you're getting bored running a big, expensive ship, take a break and fly something small and cheap. You might enjoy it!

Many CMDRs keep a fleet of ships, myself included, and use most if not all of them from my Eagle through to the Conda... for that variety [and purpose built ships.]

Wish I had the bank account for a fleet but I don't play the game enough for that. Mainly also the reason I am switching over to Solo so I'm not constantly broke due to someones boredom.

I actually prefer mid-sized ships due to the mix of handling and customization. Although the DBE is most likely my lightweight favorite even if I prefer the AspE for real exploration. The DBE is fairly cheap and is pretty perfect for surface operations with a bit of extra cargo space installed so might actually go back to it. Time to look for some space pirate tea!

One of the best things I like about in ED is that you can literally do everything in all the ship sizes. Heck I do multi million credit missions in my Viper IV and Cobra IV so no need for the bigger ships at all I've found.

Combat is fun and a decent fit small ship is more than a match for PVE bad guys out there. Exploration - check!

Mining? - My cobra IV would like to say hi!

The only real thing that small ship can't do is mass trading of anything but rares and trade type missions are all fair game.

Small ships rock!

Small ship lover here as well.

I don't have one of the big three but I have an A-rated (as far as I want them) Python, Fer-de-Lance, Imperial Clipper and Federal Assault Ship in the hangar. Only around 400 million in assets, playing since premium beta. So I am actually poor but I don't feel it because I have a ton of small ships that I use 98% of the time. My favorites are Cobra III, Viper III, iCourier. I like combat, I don't do PVP, I don't engineer because I can't be bothered. I play the BGS, establish "bases" here and there and work as a mercenary, bounty hunter and assassin.

So far I haven't found anything that I can't do in a small ship.

My Viper III at 2.5 million credits and penny rebuy can handle itself very well in CZ and HazRES sites. I don't even go to HighRES if I want fun combat because it is actually to easy with all the security. I like compromised nav beacons and HazRES sites.

I like that I have to pick my targets carefully and capitalize on opportunities but that makes combat so much more fun. And I have beaten pirate lord corvettes in PVE with heavily armored, fixed multi-cannon using Viper IVs as well.

So yes, small ships rock.

I have a fleet of ships and swap them out according to my expected plans for the evening.

But I love combat in my smaller ships. Zipping about, hiding behind rocks, dropping the power to drop my thermal signature, Hugging blind spots, hit and run.

Its much more interesting and i would love to see Fdev find a way to promote small ship use for advanced players.

My run about is my Cobra Mk3 and her rebuy is 300k which is peanuts, she's like a pair of dancing shoes and its always a breath of fresh air to launch in her.
