Tired of my loose seatbelt

I like the fact that the HUD moves back and forth when you change speed, but I think it moves too much and I cannot stand how it goes off screen. I simply cannot sit back far enough (use Track IR) to keep the HUD on the main screen at all times (when looking straight ahead).

Is there a way to change how much the HUD moves back and forth or disable it from moving?

Is there a way to zoom out or sit farther back so the HUD moving is not so pronounced?

Is this a head tracking / track IR problem or do people who don't use head tracking have the same issue?

Please help. It's really starting to drive me crazy.

Track IR user here as well. I just upped my FOV in the config file to 65(Max is 60 with the in-game slider). It still zooms in and out but nothing gets cut off.

Try turning your FOV all the way up, like so.

Still not enough Expletive ;)

Ya, agree. Thanks guys, but I already have the FOV set all the way to the right.

I even tried sitting real close, F12 for the Track IR, and then sitting back. It just doesn't move enough.

Any other suggestions?

Edit* some FYI...I'm on 3 screens at 5760x1080.

Here. You can increase FOV manually. In game options max FOV is 60... I suggest a value between 65-70 to have not a distorted screen result.
I find myself verty confortable with a FOV of 65 in my asp.

If you click and hold ui focus it sits you back far enough to cover the front hud.

Increase FOV too much and it distorts the view too much (for my liking).

Thanks Junky. I was trying to avoid messing with game files, but I may just have to bite the bullet and do it. Also thank you for posting the link instead of just saying "somewhere on the forums".

65 is about perfect on my screen. Also note that the OP has a Triple Monitor setup so he can go way higher on the FOV before he would see any distortion

Well, I'm giving 70 a try. It definitely helps with the loose seatbelt. Great!

I have noticed though, that the jaggies are worse, which I didn't think was possible (terrible aliasing in ED, even with FXAA on). I tried super sampling at 1.5, but it only helps the cockpit jaggies, not the station jaggies. Dunno why.

I also notice the text is bit fuzzed on the side panels and the planets/suns start getting bad distortion about half way along my side monitors. I can live with the distortion, but maybe not the text.

So, I may dial it back from 70 a little at a time to find the 'sweet spot'.

I'm going to try this, but I was hoping for a 'stabilise hud' option tbh.
It's been driving me nuts, the way the HUD disappears off the bottom of the screen making it impossible to see your speed during combat.

Who in hell thought that was a good idea?

Definitely try it man. I'm glad I did.

Considering the negative impacts FOV changes can have, I would also prefer a 'stabalize hud' option setting. I don't want a 'hold this button for UI focus' type of thing either. Just let us tighten our seatbelt...I mean...let us choose an option in the graphics section to stop the HUD from moving in and out.

*edit: Another crazy idea is to put your speed (number) up closer to the reticule so you can see it at all times, regardless of where the HUD moves...kinda like military jets. I'd also like to see the timer get added to the left hand display that shows your distance to nav targets...it's critical to not overshoot the 7 seconds and you can't see it sometimes with other text in the way up by the reticule.
