Titan X - Will it be that much better with DK2?

I have a 780TI, and I notice that near resource sites and sometimes in the stations I get judder.. I was wondering if a Titan X would be a smooth and good experience with an Oculus Rift DK2?

I had a 780 gtx not the ti version and have gone to a titan x so I can answer some what. The judder in stations is for all senses and purposes has gone, this is with ingame supersample at 1.5x and most settings to high/medium. With RES zones slightly different matter it depends on the amount of ships present. If you got 20-30 ships then judder occurs... even with supersample off (the most taxing upgrade afaik). If you goto the tutorials with the asteroids you can crank it all upto ultra with 1.5 SS and its pretty ok give or take.

So its a hell of a lot better with being able to have supersample on 1.5x (2.0x gives judder) but of course the DK2 is limited to 1080p so the gains are resolution limited.

Hmm interesting post. Imprvement, but not as much as I thought it would be for that price range on that card.. With my 780 TI I'm now running 1440 with oculus quality halfway down.. I have some judder in stations at spesific landing pads, but other than that it works ok, except in extraction sites with a loads of ships.. But if I could run as you say 1.5 quality with oculus quality cranked to max, that would be an improvement for sure!! But I'm not sure it justifies The X's price range! hmm

its a tough call, if i had the budget id get a titan x with plans for another come cv, but at $999 thats insane...

that being said I just spent 600$ on a gtx 980 in hopes that i can get another one for cheap when CV.

hopes hopes hopes its powerful enough.

in terms of performance,
the stock clock speed on the titan x is less than or the same as the 980 (depending on which one), but the titan x has 3000 cuda cores vs the 980s 2048.

Im not sold on the price/performance of the titan X.

id say wait as long as possible for prices to come down and they already confirmed the gtx 980 ti, which will basically take down the titan X with power, but vram will only be 6gb vs 12gb (which is plenty!)

am i right in saying that DX12 is going to give us miss matched SLI so that you do not need to pair cards and each one will do the work it can cope with.

if so then it may be an idea to hold on to what you have for now, then see how much a high end card is when CV1 comes out.

titan X gaming wise is for those with megamoney or just for willy waving imo. its not even close to worth while bang for buck.

not sure how good crossfire is in ED and DK2 now, but the R295 offers way better value.

It gets to a point where the card isn't going to make a noticeable difference... I have two rigs, one with a 780 ti and one with 2x 980s. It seems that at the moment I can't get past X1.5 with Max settings even with SLI. What that extra juice does give me though is a smooth experience up to that point. The 780 ti can handle the same settings but with judder in most places. It is happiest with high settings and no supersampling.

I honestly think the next move needs to be with the drivers if we are to take performance to the next level and NOT the GPUs

much agreed, the next step is for the devs to optimize for VR.

which will come, no doubt.

Just have to wait until consumer days, as right now we are using dev kits...

I am seriously contemplating adding another 980. The one is good it just is not quite smooth enough of course I will probably say that after the fact also but WTH.

im happy with 1 980....dsrx2 is plenty for ED and does show much more that in game SS. I mean not by much, not worth another $500 card imo.

but im in for a 980ti or 2 980s come fall.
