Titanfall 2

Any players here?

I got it on PC after weighing up whether to get back into Division or buy the rave reviewed game.

I loved the first game, I'll be on tonight to jump around and smash people up. It's like a modern day Unreal Tournament :)

I got it, never played the first but had to give this a go after I was hearing great things about the campaign. I've finished that now and have started on the multiplayer. It's a lot more difficult for me to get into as it feels like playing three separate games at once but I'm seen a vast improvement over just a few games of playing.

I got it yesterday, specifically after hearing that there won't be such a DLC-fest like with the first one. I too wasn't terribly into the singleplayer at first, but I gotta say, even as someone who despises linear campaigns / map boundaries and much prefers open world games like JointOps and the likes, it's a great game. It's certainly one of the best single player campaigns to be released this year, and probably the past 2-3 years as well. It's super polished, fun, and they never run with one gimmick longer than it's interesting to play with. And the best part is, you come across something that's scripted at first and you think to yourself, yeah, that's just gonna be scripted call of duty stuff. But no, they give that thing into your hand and say: "Go nuts. You can activate it anytime now."
And you need to, it's not just a gimmick.

The story is blah but your titan is cute.

Oh also the TTK is much lower here, which is something I love. No more having to fire an entire magazine into someone's head to make them push up the daisies. The guns all feel beefy and for the most part have a great sound design. Hit feedback is a meaty flesh noise which works surprisingly well as an audible hit indicator.

The AI is pretty weak and mostly relies on numbers instead of clever movement. But you'll be busy anyway, as the difficulty level is pretty well dialed in for each setting.

Will give the multiplayer a spin tonight.

Not quite through the campaign yet but it has been great which really isn't a big surprise, it was a big mistake not to have a campaign in the first one with the solid gameplay and backstory they had.

As for the multiplayer, only a few rounds so far. Not the biggest fan of the pilot gameplay, TTK is just a bit too low for my taste, prefer it a bit high (like Unreal Tournament, Halo, Overwatch) where a fight between two players can last more than a second and depend a bit less on who saw who first. Of course, that's where the Titans come in, sadly the loadout options here are limited with both weapons and abilities tied to the Titan chassi and the few customization options are also derived from the chassi, big step back from the first game as far as I'm concerned. Probably not going to end up spending a lot of time with the multiplayer.

Low TTK favors the tactician though. High TTK means the person with the best ability to follow a target usually wins.

Definitely a matter of taste though.

It's nothing like 'modern day Unreal Tournament'. That was quite insulting :)
Modern day UT is the UT2016, this game is just a call of duty with mechs. Loved the mechs, but regular infantry combat is stale and bland. Stinks of mentioned COD.

Are you calling Unreal Tournament obsolete? I'll hunt you down you.

Hah don't get me wrong, I loved UT 20 odd years ago, I was playing it with my dad when it first came out. More recently I also loved Unreal 3.

The only difference between the core gameplay is that in one you have a sprint button, in UT you sprint all the time.

In terms of fast paced, instagib gameplay, they are very similar. Just my opinion though.

I played for 3 hours last night, I enjoyed my time, but I have to confess I requested a refund from EA at the end of the night.

It's a good game, no doubt, but it's lost a little of that feeling from the first game for me. Enough to make a difference.

Some of it may be that TTK that you talk about, but I think the other part is the maps feel lack lustre compared. It's just not for me at the moment. If I want instant TTK I'd play a more tactical game, but the map design doesn't feel like it's meant to be played that way. I think the movement style is more appropriate for the "chasing down" style gameplay you talk about.

Anyway all just an opinion, hope you guys have fun on it :)

After playing MP last night I definitely agree with you, the MP practically demands you to keep moving at top speed unless you want to get ganked from behind or above. There's little group tactics involved, everything hinges on individual situational awareness. I dunno how much multiplayer I'll play but I'm not going to refund it since I played through most of the campaign by now, and I feel that a refund at this point wouldn't be fair. Plus I didn't pay full retail anyway.

Modern day UT is still UT'99, it's still perfect.

I choose to get over excited and assume that Mike Evans playing Titanfall is ambulation research. Grappling hook confirmed![big grin]

Had a choice between this and BF1. The first Titanfall didn't win me over. It was OK I guess. The second seemed to review quite well pre release. But I was still a bit torn. Went with BF1 though with intention to get this in a sale at some point.

Will check it out when on sale...but looks fun

It is a very good game. Some crazy deals on it for Black Friday. Bestbuy.com has the best I have seen for PC.

Great game. Multiplayer is awesome and the craftsmanship of the campaign is incredible.

I'm on Origin PC as yobrotom if anyone wants to play multiplayer.

Renewing. Anyone plays here? Feel free to add me, same nickname as here. Currently Generation 3 and loving it. I'm not great, but I don't totally suck either. The thing with TF2 (and 1) is that even when you lose, you still have immense satisfaction out of pure gameplay. It's a gem, the gameplay it self has something very special that even dying is somehow satisfying :D

Love that game.
