Actually, RES stands for Resource Extraction Site.

I actually thought it was quite funny OP put that, and then included the term "Resource Extraction Site" following it. :D
Easily missed though!

@OP: People will also refer to these as REZ - Resource Extraction Zone (HazRES/Z, LoRES/Z, HiRES/Z etc).

You've also got to be aware of acronyms of weapons like the APA (Advanced Plasma Accelerator), so as long as you know the names of things and the context of what's being spoken about is clear, you should be able to get what it is.

Also C or S prefixing or suffixing a number is referring to internal module sizing.
So a C3 or S3 would be Class/Size 3.
Sometimes people will say that to cover just the size and not the grade (A-E) [Edit- purposefully not including H class for current obvious reasons].

SDC - Smiling Dog Crew. A renowned group of players that actively pursued to greet other players with friendly attitudes. Think Reddit/aww. (currently at issues due to internal conflicts FWIH)

FSD - Friendship Drive
ECM - Electronic Countermeasures
FD - Frontier Developments
BBS - mission board (80s terms die hard)
SC - Supercruise

Helpful info here, thanks. APA has been driving me nuts.

In addition to the TLA's, there are also a number of creative expressions that are unique to Elite. Here are a few of my more popular ones:

Super-Snooze : To fall asleep in super-crusie and fly well past where you were going.
Exsnoring : To fall asleep while exploring and wake up with no idea where you are or what you were scanning.

The Cosby Maneuver : To slip into a station's mail slot without requesting permission and slip back out without incurring a trespass fine.

Imperial Cheerleader : Imperial Clipper. They're pretty and the go down easy.

Imperial Clutter : Imperial Cutters, especially when massing at a CG station. Most are shieldless, many unarmed, and they're full of tasty cargo.

Picasimus Maneuver : Orcas and Belugas that could not find the hole (mail slot) if there were hair around it. They end up pressed against the inside of the station until blasted by station turrets. Also said of players who, for whatever reason, often alcohol-induced, end up in a similar position.

I can't see SLF without hearing "Alternative Ulster" in my head.

(For quite a while in my younger days when there was no google or any easy way of looking things like this up, I was sure the lyrics were "There's a pale lobster". )

"'scuse me, while I kiss this guy." - not Jimmy Hendrix

---

And let's not forget the most important TLA of the lot:

TLA : Too Long Anyways, said of wall-of-text posts that people around here get all worked up about when someone doesn't read in their entirety because they're TLA.
