If this is real, send it to the appropriate email at FD.

Did you take this photo?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Best course of action is to contact Frontier directly and let them know about any cases of possible IP infringement.

I dont think you can copyright a common word such as elite.

Using the Elite name on its own isn't a copyright issue. If the business was video game related it might be a trademark infringement. Using the elite logo may be a copyright issue, and using both together makes it look more so. I suspect the barbers may be hearing from Frontier's lawyers.

The hair dresser, is a yes. Unless they designed the oridginal Elite logo, or got FDs ok.

The rest are just a word. Elite was around, long before FD existed.

there's actually more hilarity raging there than debate, which is just cool. recommended reading for sure.

the imagotype is obviously a ripoff, but you actually googled 'elite' to spot copyright infringement on a plain word that's been around for centuries?

Or don't be a snitch because no one is seriously going to get a barbershop confused with a game development company and

indeed one has to assume that barber is a cmdr and this is just a fun wink to fellow nerds. it's not like the image has any meaning whatsoever, or any useful connotations to capitalize on, let alone for a barber shop. if anything, it could be actually promoting the game. i agree it's silly, and of course frontier could make a case here but ... should they? well, now they probably have to.

UK trademark law is ridiculously over-reaching?

UK only? well, tbh the very notion of 'intellectual property' is controversial at best, and then equating it to 'physical property' is toxic garbage which in the long run can't get us anywehere else than a mind police state. too bad we already bought that crap en masse, what would you expect?

You can actually trademark a word. It's dumb but you can. The term "Ugg Boot" is a commonly used term to describe sheepskin boots in Australia (where they were invented). But since it was trademarked in America Australians can't use the term they invented outside of Australia anymore. Trademark is not the same thing as copyright.

Elite is a word, anyone is free to use it. Only the barber shop, with the logo, is being a bit too cheeky.

I have a collection (right arm sleeve) of images taken from warhammer 40k. They include an imperial knight, deathwatch space marine, tyrannids, orcs and aeldari. I regularly attend the Black Library events and at last years weekender event I was introduced to various members of their team including authors and artists, I was introduced to one gent and on shaking his hand he commented on my arm saying “Nice tattoo” beaming I replied “thanks” to which he replied “I Remember when I did the drawing it’s one of my favourites”. I was a bit stunned especially when his next comment was “I wonder what the copy right law is on tattoos?” The look on my face must have said it all because he burst out laughing and said “don’t worry mate I’m flattered you liked it so much you had it inked”. Cost me a few pints at the bar and was a good talking point for the rest of the weekend.

Is this the Anarchy state now?

Do you all comments and suggestions become Frontier property once you post on forum . The T & C apparently they cant use any suggestions for game features so tell you not to post them

Ill wait for patents lawyer to show up to explain why IP and patent protection are important. If you don't protect your TMs etc you loose the right to the exclusivity

Heard of cybersquatting? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cybersquatting

I was tried to open a company bank account. The company name I had chosen was apparently too similar to another company same which might lead to confusion to who was getting paid.

When I was doing web design a company choose a similar look to Barclays that was situated nearby.

A bit like this
