To all explorers - do you only scan stars or entire systems?

As per the title - how thorough are you in your scans?

Do you meticulously scan each and every planet, only go for the "easy" ones, or just simply scan the main stars and move on?

All of that, depends on the system contents.

Depends. If I have picked a certain destination that I want to reach and scan (for example a specifiacally large star or a nebular i found via galaxy map) then I will usually just scan the main star. But while scanning and scooping I take a look at the system map and if there is for example a water world or similair I'll go for a scan. Also if there are secondary stars or large planets in close range for a quick scan I'll usually do that too.

If I am "aimlessly" jumping around I decide based on my level of interest in the particular system. :p

I did my first outing with ADS DSC the other day, scanned EVERYTHING in system HIP 64522........just for the lolz........did some quick scans blasting through other systems....made about 150k for the evengins trip which was fun........however......
...
When I first looked at the System map, it had tagged about 80% of the objects as SimMaker.............but had missed a few.........and when I checked again this morning, after last nights update.....I see that some of the SimMaker tags have been taken off....so, what was showing as SimMaker, now isnt...but has not been replaced with other CMDR tags.........so now system about 60% tagged with Sim.......
...
Not sure if I am doing somethjing wrong, its a bug? but, I dont think I will rush out to scan a whole system again as....well....it seems I can't.......... :(

So I enter the system, scan the star and scan the system. While the scan of the star is going on I check the system map and see if there are any worlds that look like they may be terrestrial or water worlds. I then see if any of the planets are close enough that I can scan them without having to move the ship from the current location. I then will fuel scoop to the next star unless there is an interesting looking world. If I go scan the interesting looking world I'll scan other planets that are convienent as well.

Now then ... IF some of the frozen worlds, gas giants, etc had the possibility of an extraodinary find on detailed scan then I'd spend more time doing all planets in the system. Until FD puts in very rare, but exceptionally lucrative and interesting anomolous results from a scan, I don't see a need to do much else.

Can't think of the last time I scanned a whole system (that wasn't star-only). I'm looking for blue worlds or terraformers exclusively. I rarely even scan all the high metal worlds unless they're in the Goldilocks zone or on the way to something interestingly blue.

It's a well known (to us, but no comment from FD) bug. There are multiple threads about it.

I explore everything in the system; asteroid belts, stars, planets, moons, whatever. Because it bothers me deep inside if I see something that's unexplored.

I'm thinking this game is probably not healthy for folks who have obsessive compulsive disorder. (not saying you do!)

detail scan everything, visit every station taking screenshots of commodities and other info. Write down that i've scanned the systems, put em on a list when i sell the info. sort screenshots into folders by system.

Scan the star, then scan planets outwards from the star until I find an ice one. Look at system map to see if there are any close gas giants worth checking, if so I might scan any satellites of the gas giant if I'm close enough. From the system map see if there are any more stars, if so see what any orbiting planets look like, make spurious decision to go and have a look or jump to the next system.

I would pay almost any amount and sell any remaining family members for a omni-directional or gimbal mounted scanner, having to be pointing at the object is so 2850, it supposed to be 3300 or so! I should be able to scan the star when heading away to the first planet and do planets while passing.

I scan everything I spot . . . With my basic scanner ;-). Once I have the cash I'll be getting an intermediate one, but I'll still scan everything I find. The only exception is systems inside the 500LY bubble of inhabited space. Those are only scanner and / or scooped, but that's so I can get to empty space asap

Have fun,
Jintosh

It depends on how I'm feeling and how far I am traveling. At the moment I'm mostly just scanning the main star as I'm over 4000ly out. But saying that no and then I see an interesting looking system and will scan it all, minus the 'roids. I have found when going long journeys that you have to keep moving fast to see yourself making progress on the galaxy map. If you don't and stop to scan everything in every star system you begin to feel like your not going anywhere. Or at least that is the way I felt a week ago. The longer the journey you are undertaking the more you must think about what your aims are before setting out. If you don't then you might find that you become discouraged after a couple of weeks. I'm still continuing my trip though must admit that I am finding it harder the furhter I go.

i guess i'm using a pretty standard approach.

scanning the hotter stars, mainly F and above.
checking for earth/water/metal, especially in the goldy lock zones.

engage hyperjump.

Nowadays I've been taking it easy and scanning everything I can see as Unexplored. At the end of the day, it's more money. Plus, if I can sell it afterwards (not when :p) then it's data for the community as a whole. :)

Enter system -> discovery scan -> check system map

Looks profitable ? -> cherry pick the profit makers and detail scan earth-like, life form bearing, metal rich etc., but no long SC trips. What is 10.000+ ls away here might be 20ls away in the next system

Looks unprofitable ? -> jump to next system and repeat
