To all 'high cost' moaners out there

First, let me apologize for my poor English :)

Sick and tired of reading all the comments about high-cost for expansions, counting differences between lifetime pass then and now, ,'you are making a mistake' posts, etc.

What's wrong with you people? You're used to pirated games you don't want to pay for? You're comparing ED to some other MMO-games? You're telling $195 is too much for all possible expansions that will ever exist?

Let me be honest with you. I owned many computers/games since 1990, I played Elite on spectrum, yes, I am that old :) In this long way (today is 2015, btw), I've never had a game that I spent so much time in. Yes, it's not perfect, yes, it needs some work, yes, some things I really dislike, for example FD policy over updates (some large update, few days after that they fix something and leave it halfway and then they are silent for few weeks). But there's no other game, at least for me, that would keep me entertained for such a long time. I am playing since Dec 17, 2014, I am not a backer - a few then thought this game would be as great as it is now.

As for now, let me just get a few facts together without any conclusion, just a facts.

1) An hours per a dollar value. Can't say for sure since I deleted the game 1 or 2 times, but that's a hundreds for me. For original $60 I paid - one of best investments ever.

2) No one makes you pay for expansion if you don't want it. Play a game in basic stance as it is now + CQC. For $60 it's more than enough.

3) It's impolite to point fingers at others, but someone pays hundreds of dollars for ships that are standing in a shining hangar. You_know_what_I_mean.

4) Occasionally, I leave $150-$300 in a restaurant. To enjoy a tasty, unusual food (btw, sometimes I don't even enjoy it) and dump it a few hours. Nuff said.

5) Just count how much money you spend weekly for beer, wine, smoke, wife, kids, whatever. Same joy, heh?

6) Some people are paying $60 per every single 'hot' title of the year. COD, BF, you name it. However, I paid $60 for Witcher 3 since devs amazing job fully deserves it. Cities Skylines for $30 - same thing. I don't play these games anymore, but I do not regret of a single dollar spent.

7) FD could have gone monthly-yearly subscriptions way, but they have chosen expansion way. That's their game and their rules. We have to respect that.

...

so anyway. I could go on and go on. My $180.00 pass is purchased. I was thinking about that only for a second. I won't be regretting that no matter what happens.

Thanks, FD, for getting us a dream, a story, an unique for everyone experience that is not shiny special-effects pew-pew that is chewed for you and carefully put in a open mouth, like most modern movies. Please don't listen to moaners, try to skip the negativity and keep loving your game. The way it's now, it seems you really loving it. As we do.

(and please, do updates more frequently....:) even the smallest ones)

I'll certainly purchase horizons, but probably won't purchase the beta pass. I'll definitely pass on the lifetime thing, though. That's a bit steep for completely unknown content with no target date.

That's ok. :)

I suggest reading the moans and then realising it's not the height of the costs that causes the moaning.

And then post on this thread: oh dear, it seems I got it wrong and I have this high horse all dressed up and nowhere to go! :)

Keep seeing this
"7) FD could have gone monthly-yearly subscriptions way, but they have chosen expansion way. That's their game and their rules. We have to respect that."

It's crap though.
It's a p2p game. Not a game that has massive server costs that justifies a subscription like WOW, EVE etc....
So no, they couldn't have gone the subscription route as there wouldn't be a game if they did. There's no way it would have got out of kickstarter as hardly anyone would accept it back then.

Yeah, its a valid point, it's fair to know what youre getting before you buy it.

"Hello, I've come to buy a car."
"We have this one here, it costs $20000."
"Oh cool, I'll take it"
"Wait, for another $15000 we'll make it better!"
"Oookkkay... how exactly? What will be in it?"
"Well, initially we'll put aluminium wheels on it."
"Ok, that's worth something - but not 3/4 the initial price"
"Well we'll do more things to it and it'll be better - really! Trust us!"

^ That's pretty much what the problem is currently. Not the price. It's what you (don't know that you will) get for the price. Be more specific and win more people over - simple as that.

No one promised what EXACTLY will be in a car for $20.000. Does it drive? Yes. Has a stereo? Of course. Did you have fun while driving that for some great amount of time? Yes.

So ?

If you want to stay in WV Golf, go ahead. Your right.

I'll pay to make it an Audi A8.

But what about....

"Hello, I've come to buy a car."
"We have this one here, it costs $20000."
"Oh cool, I'll take it....."

<Later>

"Stop making cars for other people and make my car better add stuff. I paid for this car I want more now. This car I bought is lacking and I deserve more car."

Come on now don't be daft, of course they do - they're obliged to. I've never bought a car without knowing exactly what was in it.

That's idiotic and totally irrelevant to my example. People who moan about a price change later on are a totally different species. I'm tackling the fact that a good portion of the qualms people are having over this is because there is no information available - if the info was out people would see and be able to judge if it's something they want to pay for.

My wife thought i was mad during kickstarter for throwing over £100 at a game that didn't exist yet. I'm delighted that I did. FD have produced a very polished product, and their track record so far could be enough to convince you to go for the lifetime pass. Buy it now while its still available I say.

Agreed. I consider a game to be worthwhile if I get at least 20 hours where I'm having fun. I think I've gotten about 300 hours so far with Elite. Not going to argue with the criticisms since they're all correct but you can't ignore all the praise this game gets because that's well earned also. I almost feel bad not buying the lame paint jobs. Definitely getting this.

Can't say I agree with the sentiment. People think it is too much, you think it is not. Why do we all need to make threads saying whether or not we think it is value for money. Personally, I think it is too expensive. And regarding point 5, I do not drink, smoke, have kids(just yet) or lavishly spend. My leisure is gaming and all else is work and bills, so I can empathise with people who would like their favourite game to be more affordable. Ultimately your post accurately describes different consumers spending habits, you clearly understand people have different opinions on what is affordable and valuable so your post comes off like a middle-class rant.

All that being said, I wouldn't be telling the company they are making a mistake, they will know that if I decide not to purchase it.

A lot of people are not complaining about how expensive the season 2 is.
They complain about early players to have to be milked while new players can enjoy full content for just 10£ extra. I don't think ED or EDH are expensive considering how long I played and will play. That being said the pricing strategy is surprising and unfair to say the least.

Actually, it's much "worse" for people who bought the game today for example. They don't get to have all the enjoyment the older players have had before having to pay again for the expansion. Bad luck and kind of a bad break but it does happen.

As an early backer / early player you experienced a few hundred hundreds of gameplay. It was bad, it was good, it was boring, it did bring emotions.

What's unfair there?

If you really think so, I would suggest to set alarm clock to 2017-2025 and buy game in Steam on sale, with all expansions, for $12.99 Chinese dollars :)

Well Steam players can get a refund and rebuy, that's a legit option.
