To all people complaining scooped cargo is marked as stolen

I saw one episode and disliked it so I don't know what you're getting at.

I love most sci-fi but that, meh.. Didn't do anything for me.

Ever seen Firefly? :D

Your point is sound from a realistic point of view.
But in a game point of view, unless you happen to be in an area you know well, by well, I mean know with certainty a nearby outpost with black market, stolen cargo just isn't worth the risk of scooping, which for anyone with a nomadic gameplay style renders it useless.. Also, I feel the penalties for scooping some crates in the deepest darkest recesses of space are a little harsh considering piracy and murder and assassination is a part of everyday life.

FD could easily have another interesting profession by making salvaging legal instead of stealing. They wouldn't have to change the legality or prohibitive designation of the salvaged goods at certain stations. It would be up to the Commander to decide where to sell the space garbage: Smuggle it in or dock where it's legal.

I know I know, I actually agree scavenged goods shouldn't be considered stolen. I just found it funny that in Firefly the same happens to the crew, and they were equally startled by it! :D

Illegal salvage operations I believe they were hit with.

Makes me wonder if it would be worthwhile adding a feature to register as a legitimate salvage operator.

I'm OK with cargo being marked stolen most of the time, but it does seem odd that stuff you find in deserted systems that probably been floating around for hundreds or thousands of years is still marked stolen.

I do like that it's illegal. Salvagers are usually on the business end of the law even in the real world.

However, I don't think it should be counted at STOLEN. That isn't quite right. Some kind of in-between would be better - where salvaged cargo is marked as such (SALVAGED), and if you are found in possession, you are hit with a smaller fine based solely on quantity.

With that being said, I think police should pull you over and demand that you surrender your cargo if you are found carrying STOLEN goods.

I find it an inconvenience. Does it sensibly sit with the actions that garnered it? If someone broke the cargo hold and forced someone to drop the cargo then I'd agree it is stolen.

Cargo dropped by wanted criminals is surely not.

I guess it was more difficult to program such eventualities.

Let me tell you a sad story...

I went into an Anarchy system, aiming to clean up the town. Armed with a bounty scanner, I hunted the dregs of the galaxy in the name of law and order. I happened upon a smuggler with a nice bounty and fully loaded cargo bay. I attacked and, in his haste to escape, he jettisoned his cargo. I recognized some of the canisters as pretty spendy objects so I scooped them up and made a run to the closest station. In those days hitting a $5000 bounty was something really special... so imagine how I felt when the black market offered four times that for selling the stolen goods. And that's I became a pirate.

Put a Firefly class ship in this game and have a few voice samples of Kaylee, wash and Mal...and i`ll never complain again,i`ll be too busy out in `verse listening and grinning like a maniac.
