To All True Sons and Daughters of the Empire

Meh. The Drunks of Sol support anyone willing to pay enough in credits, wine, women, and song.

I'm not a member of the Empire and I hate that you guys allow slavery, but I will join you in this cause. I like how the princess gets stuff done and for that she has earned my respect. I won't stand by while Patreus takes more slaves because of his schemes, and giving the princess some support in doing so is just an added bonus. Count me in.

Sorry, but I'm quite sure that there is no good reason not to support wine, women and song... resistance of the Empire is futile, long live the Empire, and the wine, especially the women and the song.

I think that there is a total misunderstanding regarding Empire slavery. Read the context provided in-game, it is not slavery as commonly known historically, but rather a means to restore honor.

Therefore, though it goes against the grain, I call upon every true Son and Daughter of the Empire, every free Imperial pilot, to ignore Patreus' requests for mercenary support in "reclaiming" his property from Kui Hsien. Indeed, if you support Arissa de Lavigny and the Emperor's Will for the Succession, I call upon you to actively fight Patreus at every turn. I am aware that taking missions against his factions, or sabotaging missions from his factions, will sour your standing with the Empire itself. For those of you willing to make that sacrifice, I applaud you, but all I ask is for pilots to enter warzones in systems Patreus means to conquer, and destroy as many of his factions' ships as you can get in your sights.

You've given this son much to think about, citizen.

I support the Emperor in all things. I cannot see this changing anytime soon.

Baron RedShirt of Atlantis.

An interesting and valuable summary. Thank you Commander. I am an adopted son of the Empire, but, alas, a bit far out at the moment to do anything but listen for news and wonder.

wine, women, and song.

Achievement unlocked?

I think that there is a total misunderstanding regarding Empire slavery. Read the context provided in-game, it is not slavery as commonly known historically, but rather a means to restore honor.

The following is my understanding:

On paper it's consensual indentured servitude; a person in debt, rather than defaulting, would willingly sign themselves over to a "slave" agency to work their debt off. Laws govern the ethical treatment of Imperial slaves, and in general it's frowned upon to mistreat them.

In practice that's seemingly only true in core Imperial systems. Mining colonies, factories, etc. all employ vast quantities of slave labor, and they are apparently not treated particularly well, because those systems have lots of "bring me slaves" and "free these slaves" missions to the effect of "I killed all my slaves and need more thx" and "all the slaves got killed pls dont bring more thx" respectively.

I don't personally support the system, but it's not that bad where the law is enforced - it's better than living in squalor and poverty, unable to get back on your feet until you're kidnapped and forced into illegal, unregulated slavery, which is seemingly not uncommon in Federation space.

Greetings Cmdr,
I think you're right with your evaluation. I am an imperial soldier since the beginning, well at least after 10h into my piloting career that is.
I fought nearly every battle on the Empire's side and never doubted the motives of it all. I admit i did that out of greed and to just belong to somewhere.
I found Patreus indispicable since a long time and will now choose my sides more carefully. I'll do that for the Empire and not against it. I feel that under Patreus' lead the Empire would become quickly what the Federation seems to be right now under President Halsley. Just a cruel mindless mega corporation with the Illusion of a held high mora.
I am aware that every player in this political game has its own agenda and not always in the best interest of the people. But i think Lavigny-Duval is by far the lesser evil and even when on her own quest for revenge, she at least does something which seems to bring results as to seek and judge the coward who spitted in the face of the Empire by killing the Emperor and thus destabilizing the realm.
I don't know if i should openly oppose Patreus' forces or just decline my aid.
You get easily confused in the power strugle of the rich and mighty
Cmdr Lassan
Ps.: i like this thread, i think there aren't enough of them because it is an easy and creative way of filling this universe with life and meaning. I am confident that the story will develop strong with time when a greater number of commanders is assembled with steam and publicity and whatever.
Thanks op for this interesting read

Well said Sir.

I too am a Baron of the empire and will loyally fight on... for whoever pays the most or offers the best quality whiskey! (latter option preferred)

So, a lot like ancient Rome?

Why isn't there a CG for the other side? I want to fight in this war but not on the Senators side......
I too have refused Patreus's call as his methods offend me, but I fear that the very nature of his victims' situation may make it impractical for them to offer any such scheme in their own defense. They simply cannot afford to provide the incentives that would persuade mercenary pilots to fight at their side.

Patreus is a true son of the Empire, even if he isn't a child of the now diminished Emperor. The Duval line has ended with a degraded travesty of it's former Imperial majesty and heritage, like any dying star does. But, the elements from it have been seeded in our culture. They are fused in our splendour and perfection and we all carry the echo, to greater or lesser extents.
We need steel, not silk or sapphire, for the future and prosperity of the Empire. Patreus is tempered for leadership.
CMDRs should consider the true meaning of loyalty before blinding themselves in the supernova flash from our imminent Emperors demise.

I will support the Emperor and his heirs and though Senator Patreus's perceived guilt gnaws at me, i cannot in good conscience actively work against a legally sitting senator. That being said, i remain vigilant. The future of our great imperial way of life is not to be taken lightly and i am no fool. For now i wait, but know this...when the hour darkens, Count Dathayn will heed the Emperor's call to glory

Those that cite violence against law abidding Citizens, be they soldiers, merchants or the most odious of usurers are traitors to the Empire. Perhaps war is inevitable, but pre-emptive actions against a vile Senator will certainly march us all towards war.

This is madness.

If Senator Patreus were truly a loyal son of the Empire, would he be equipping his forces with restricted Federation technology?

When the Friends of Kui Hsien reached out to me and asked me to confront one of the field commanders leading the assault against them, I wondered what could be so important about one man that this impoverised faction could be willing to spend so many credits to expose him. Imagine my shock when I finally caught up to him in BV Phoenicis space and saw what he was flying.

As a Baron of the empire and a member of Princess Arissa's Clipper fleet I was well prepared to talk with him and hear his explanation, but as he deployed hardpoints and opened fire upon me it became clear that from the moment I had tracked down his signal, I already knew too much to be allowed to live.

I fought back, of course, and as you can see, from the moment his shields dropped, the coward's only thoughts were of escape. He slipped away into hyperspace before I could disable his vessel and take him in for questioning.

I know that I may be marked for death by Patreus for exposing this, but I do not fear him. The truth shall set me free.

No, he is not. Patreus is a politician after the Federal style, with no actual agenda beyond putting a crown on his head. What he will do with the Empire should he win the rule of it is anybody's guess. We cannot rely upon him; we cannot trust him, and by allying himself with Aisling, he has shown a dangerous willingness to cater to fed-symps in order to gain support. His only strength is ambition, and once that is satisfied, we will find nothing but weakness in him.

I will never deny that Arissa de Lavigny-Duval, too, is ambitious, but she has more than that alone: she has Tradition. She has the support of Chancellor Blaine, who has been by Hengist's side as he maintained the Empire in the form set by his forefathers; the form that has caused it to prosper, thrive, and grow. And finally, most importantly of all, she has the Emperor's own endorsement upon the legitimacy of her claim.

Arissa is the right choice, and the only legitimate choice, for the Empire.

Well said!

To those going to Patreus I say beware the kool aid you drink and from whos hand it comes from.....
