I started out in my system intending on it being mainly a mining concern, with pristine ringed planets for all kinds of mineral products. Primary Port - Ocellus - took me a little over two weeks working solo (I'm retired, so lots of free time).
At first I used my 'Conda rigged for cargo (easy because it was my main mining ship), but I decided to buy a T-9 and that sped things up a lot. However it's also very vulnerable to pirates, almost got burned up three times, so I then re-rigged my Corvette for cargo hauling with some teeth if needed. I move my fleet carrier wherever in the system it's advantageous, primarily in orbit around or near construction sites. It's also where I gather all the commodity components in one place. The T-9 is great for the short-run deliveries from the carrier to the construction sites. I'm working on a self-sustaining system, but still have to get about 40% of the components from a Trailblazer system, and even some hard-to-get military items from surrounding systems, so the carrier and my ships are jumping like grasshoppers.
I've built one T2 planetary settlement and am now working on the second, aiming at a T3 planetary port as the ultimate project. I've also purchased and rigged a T-8 for visits to places with limited landing -- what a hot rod for such a hauler lol. Haven't had to deal with any more interdictions for quite a while and am now working on boosting the system security to at least medium. I learned early on to take frequent breaks to help relieve the tedium of acquisition and hauling, but having various ships to use breaks the monotony some, and I've started to learn to use keyboard flight controls as well as HOTAS to make a more ergonomically-friendly game experience. Toss in a few planetary salvage excursions and things aren't yet boring. Once I start mining the rings directly I expect it'll get more interesting as well, I haven't had to deal with pirates for a long while, having been out in the black for the better part of year.
