There is a strict policy of not naming Commanders from in-game on these forums.

The thread title has been edited.

pretty sure its Naming and shaming... as it is with almost every forum... Cant see anything wrong with naming a cmdr to apologise tbh, especially when i was in the wrong! The poor guys Cobra bounced off my shields and exploded against the station wall. Id gladly go drop him 400k in cargo if he needed replacement :/

It's probably safer to disallow all of it lest we have people mock "apologising" and similar. Not saying I agree with it, just that it's probably smarter.

What if you met a real friendly cmdr who was helping guard a station? Can't name him?

Or a cmdr who shared some trade routes with you?

Yeah, if the policy has been tightened, it does seem like the Forum Rules could use an update. Because they still specifically only refer naming and shaming, not naming alone. Not sure if I agree with the new policy (I'd definitely have been in breach of it a few times during beta, just by relaying good experiences I had with other commanders), but I'll live with it. I'm just a visitor here, don't own the place :p

This may be a case of over zealous moderation due to a misunderstanding of the actual policy.
I hope so.
I also hope that the distinction between naming, and naming and shaming is clarified.

may also be a case of power mad kiddie mods who don't understand the forum rules because all I can find is the usual naming and shaming rule which clearly does not apply :/

i reserve my right to be wrong :p

Might be best to just wait for clarification before throwing the thread down the drain like that. If the rules have been changed, it probably wasn't the mods who decided it. If they haven't, it could just be an honest misunderstanding.

Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. The policy has been working fine up to now.
It seems that usually a moderator will examine the thread and then make a decision accordingly. There have been plenty of other thanks threads and similar that have not required moderator intervention.
That's why I think a clarification is probably in order. Especially given the rules have not been updated to reflect such a policy as suggested exists in this thread.
