To everybody screaming against infinite probes in the name of realism, I say this to you...

This game is NOT realistic. It cannot be termed as such unless it's realism is ABSOLUTE.

Let me follow up on that.

Realism in this game doesn't exist unless it is absolute. So since it's a game, I say irritate people less and make these probes infinite in their basic form at the very least.

Do people forget that this game allows them to travel multiple times faster than the speed of light and allows for players to discover information about every astronomical body within a system with the honk of a honk? Hell, the speed that must travel in order to reach and return with the information defies anything bound by realism in it's own right.

So let me remind you all... This is a game and there are elements of this game that simply cannot be realistic, not if you wish to actually be able to play and enjoy it, because were it to actually be entirely realistic, then it simply wouldn't be realistic for a human being to be capable of playing it before his/her life expired.

Have a good day.

I think OP needs to look up the difference between realism, fantasy and science fiction
Science fiction does not need to be realistic

I do agree tho that if this is the biggest problem for chapter 4 it bodes well

I couldn't say it better.

Besides, FDev tried it, decided it wouldn't work, and thus removed the need to synth.

If it makes people feel better, how about the probes are simply holographic in nature, and all you're doing is sending out packets of photons, manipulated by a ship-generated magnetic field, which bends the path of the photon's in such a way they move in spacetime to a position relative to the magnetic field and the gravitational pull of the planet, and so being able to reflect back the information, again across the same magnetic field back to the ship, which can then process this information as geographical data, in the same way that geophys does today. That way, no actual matter is needed, and Einstein's theory of relativity can explain the photon's movement. Thus infinite probes.

Or just pretend that that's what all that extra space is for in our ships. To stock tens of thousands of tiny probes. So many that they're not even worth mentioning.

Thanos wanted to reduce everyone by half, Thanos hates infinite probes, don't vote Thanos ;)
*zooms out galaxy map, sees hundreds of billions of stars with planets that can be used for resources*
Yeah, something tells me Thanos's reasons don't hold up too well...

Vote for your right to probe what you want, when you want and however many times you want! Vote infinite!

Honestly though the alternative is having to land every so often to gather X, Z and H (because it's found on a different planet) in a vehicle what some say has terrible handling and is prone to exploding of you run over a pebble.

Can we have a poll on which thread to update for what will now be called the 'Infinity War'?

Even if Thanos were to wipe out half the probe threads there would still be too many mouths to feed.

Everyone who is all about realism should not fly with Flight Assist on. That's how it will work in real space anyway, whether you like it or not. Very unlikely we will see this flight assist at any point in real-life because it is extremely fuel-inefficient and fuel requires more weight aboard a ship, which then results in heavier ships. And in space, you want the least mass possible.

In the end this is a game. It should be enjoyable, and preferably as grind-free as possible.
Everything can be explained in a game, especially sci-fi and fantasy ones.

Perhaps the probes are reusable and will return to the ship automatically and are thus technically infinite. I'm sure that in the year 3304 they have figured out a way to reuse probes and satellites and such.

Well, if we cut the infinite number of probes in half....... wait, no still infinite. :p
