Newcomer / Intro To Infinity and Beyond... no wait, maybe that is not quite true

Hi there,

This is just my second week of playing Elite Dangerous and lets start by saying ... wow. Thanks.

Ok, so here is my initial though…

I was reading a posting the other day about someone finding a Black Hole in the galaxy. Uncertain if that's true or not, but it does raise the question, "How far do I need to go to find other space stations in the galaxy?" The furthest I've been outside the area is the Snake System. Nothing interesting as such so I returned back to Kini system where I'm currently docked. I did pick up a few credits though... which was nice.

So does anyone have any ideas where to find other life?

Cheers,

K9Teeth.

Lots of black holes, been to some, even the super massive one in the center of the Galaxy.
Your nearest BH is "Maia", search for it in the Galaxy Map and see how far it is. For a well tooled out Asp, its just like popping down the shops, but I doubt you will have one of those quite yet. Once you have a jump of 15ly or so and the biggest fuel scoop your ship will hold, it shouldnt be a problem.

Inhabited space is a big blob a couple of hundred ly across. There is no other sentient life in the Galaxy, honest (yet).

When you start you probably won't travel very far, but as you get into the game you'll find yourself roving across a couple of hundred light years without thinking much about it.

There's plenty of life out there, just nothing advanced enough to talk to. Travel in any direction and sooner or later you will find yourself out of the human sphere of influence, scroll out on the galaxy map and you'll see just what a tiny portion of the galaxy we inhabit.

As for black holes, there are loads out there, HIP 34707 B is probably your closest.
