To Orion, and beyond!

And hopefully back again. :)
After reaching Elite in exploration, I've been pootling around the bubble, doing CG's, going "Meep meep!" and engineering my growing fleet.
The wanderlust has struck again, so I got my new Dolphin and headed to the one place on my "Grand Tour" list that I haven't been to before - Orion. Who knew there was an asteroid base in the Witch Head nebula? Kerching! 3 million.
I have now been in-game to every object/star I can point to in the night sky and say "That's <insert name here>". Still a few stars in Orion I haven't got to yet - Just zoomed right past Bellatrix because it's a lot closer that the rest, and the last star in Ortion's belt is another 1000LY or so beyond, but with the permit-locked areas, I couldn't plot a route to it. I'll find another way.

Anyway, some pics...

To loiter is to linger without porpoise. I have a porpoise.

Why is that star still there?

to get around the permit zone, try plotting to Synuefe QF-I c12-3 or Hip 34528, from there you ca get into the direction of Vy Canis Majoris.

it's a huge detour, but worked reliable twice for me.

the alternative is going around the other side, i have done so once, but can#t find my route at the moment.

I tried every way I could to get to that last star in Orion's belt, but it seems it can't be none in this ship. Maybe with more jump range? (32.5LY)

Anyway, I set my sights on Eta Carinae & the Carina nebula and moved on...

Ooh! Shiny!

I'm speechless.

Yes, that's a ring system around a K-type star.

Made it to the Carina nebula.

Now heading in the general direction of the Crab nebula. I'll be taking the scenic route. :)

To the Jellyfish... And beyond!

If you're doing a "Grand Tour" then I sure hope your ships name is called "The James May". Sorry I had to...

If I did that, I'd probably never get laid.

Anyway...
First discovered an ELW :)

And another one! :D

Don't bother rushing out there to cheat me of my finds... There's an asteroid base in the Rosette nebula:

Top tip for explorers: There are many asteroid bases out in the middle of nowhere, especially in/near nebulae. Find them by switching your galaxy map to "Government" and unselect "None". They always seem to have repairs and Universal Cartographics. I'm now 112Mcr richer, repaired and fixed up my paint job which was getting very tatty.
I see a Monkey's Head in the distance...

On my way to check out Hell Port in the Seagull Nebula, but I stopped at the Orion Nebula Tourist Centre to grab a few beers. Hope you don't mind if I hijack this thread real quick :D

Look what I did on the way to the Crab Nebula.

Great tip, cheers :)

To anyone who hasn't been to the Orion Pulsar, I recommend it: Stunning views in and around the nebula...

...And there's a base nearby.

My return trip via Bellatrix has been interrupted by the 2.4 Beta, but I'm in no hurry, as long as I get there before the Thargoids do. [alien][where is it]

To Infinity... and back!
Thanks for watching. :)

I made it back to the bubble, and found a nice surprise on my way back - the Eskimo nebula:

I guess that wraps this thread up. Thanks for following, and if I see you in the black, I'll probably run away but don't take it personally :)
